Went to Mariel for dinner last night and it was an amazing experience! Our server asked if anyone at the table had allergies (I have a soy allergy, too) and then proceeded to walk through the entire menu explaining what I can and cannot have. He asked how sensitive I was to shared fryers and luckily I am okay with those. I ended up getting the yuca cheese puffs and small steak churrasco, both were to die for!!! The server said all of the staff is tested on the allergens of the menu. FYI the chicken tots are also GF (shared frier). The hummus and the avocado are GF and the chips are in a separate frier.

I was less than impressed coming here. I am also dairy and nut free so that limited my options as well. But I ordered a salad that the menu listed had a crema and queso on it. I asked for those to be removed and added that I had a gluten and dairy allergy. When my meal came out it was covered in NUTS?! I called someone over to confirm my suspicions and pointed out that it wasn’t listed on the menu. I told them I had a nut allergy and they quickly made me a new dish but I was definitely a little rattled. I don’t always specify my nut allergy because it isn’t super severe, I just can’t eat them. But I would have told them if it was listed on the menu. The food was so so, so realistically I won’t be going back

Mariel turned out to be better than I thought for gluten free! I went for brunch and had a lovely waiter who started off by asking if anyone had allergies. When I let him know I had Celiac, he went to talk to the chef and came out with a menu that was marked up to show what items were gf, what could be modified to be gf, and what couldn’t be made gf.

Note that some of the modifications were pretty big - I had the arepas and the modification was no arepas (so it was just the egg scramble and beans and guacamole) but it was still delicious. The chips are fried in their own fryer and are safe. I felt fine after eating here and really enjoyed the food!
