Review of Maudie's

DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU ARE GLUTEN FREE!!!!!

We went there after finding them on Find Me Gluten Free. I specifically wanted to go because they said they had undergone special training and were certified gluten free. When the waitress approached us, I immediately asked for a gluten free menu. In the meantime, someone brought us chips and salsa which I immediately started eating, When the waitress returned with our menus, she said she would now bring us gluten free chips. When I asked about the chips that had already been served to us, she said "they have a little bit of gluten." WTF....for someone who is celiac there is no such thing as "a little bit" being okay. The manager came over and basically said that it was our fault because people usually announce they are gluten free before they ever sit down. Again, WTF. I tried to explain what a huge issue this was and that they need to change their procedure (putting gluten chips down at a place that is certified gluten-free), but she just didn't get it. She just kept saying we should have told her before we sat down. She did say that it was a cross contamination issue not an ingredient issue, but we chose to leave anyway. There is so much gluten free tex options in Austin, don't take a chance with this place, We ended up at Torchy's tacos and had the best tacos of our lives.
