Horrible service! Had the pizza burnt twice and was told, "it's GF what do you expect." Then had the manager yell at us for being upset that it had been burnt twice, even though we'd waited for almost an hour and a half and had only seen our server twice all night. Because I was so hungry had a slice & of course got sick because of cross-contamination. I've never had these many problems at any Mellow Mushrooms!!
They have a decent crust using Smart flour. I have not had a reaction anytime we have a pizza from Mellow Mushroom but the price keeps us from going there. Waayyyy too expensive.
Good pizza. Though I was unsure at first that they understood cross contamination, they did a great job.
Nice atmosphere. Employees had no clue about a gluten free menu. They all just parroted back that the only gf pizza was the medium size. Crust was soggy. 19.50 for a med pizza.
The best gluten free pizza I've ever had, hands down! Dedicated kitchen space and trained staff, so no worries about cross contamination! Mellow Mushroom is one of my go to places in St. Augustine every time I'm there, wish there was one closer to me!
Very expensive for good, not great, pizza. Gf crust is very thin and has a whole wheat taste to it.
Probably the best GF crust I have ever eaten.
Great pizza as always. Although sometimes I wish the crust were a little thicker. There are no other options for GF other than pizza. I did ask if I could have GF plain pizza crust to go with their hummus dish that is GF. They had to check with the manager, and I was able to have GF pizza crust as flatbread with their hummus dip. They should have that as an option on the menu!
told them it was more serious than just a choice to eat gluten free and still got very sick from the food.
gluten free pizza was ok, got severely ill after. My guess is cross contamination.
Great pizza! This location is so much tastier than the ones in DFW!
This place is just OK. Their gluten free menu doesn't have a ton of options and unfortunately, the pizzas only come in a medium (which are very pricy). Service is definitely lacking in many areas, and the pizza we ordered came out burnt. My husband also asked for no mushrooms in his side salad, and it came with what seemed to be extra mushrooms. For 1 medium pizza, 2 side salads, a kids mac n cheese, and 3 drinks, the total was almost $50. Definitely not worth it. No thank you. Won't be back.
Very, very good pizza! It was the best gluten free pizza I have ever had. I even liked the crust! The server was very informed about how to handle the gluten free food items. He brought try food out separate from the other food my table ordered. I never got sick from it either! It is certainly a good restaurant to eat at if you are gluten free!
wow!!!! the best GF pizza!! Great service from begining to the end! Our server was great and know and understand our gluten issues!
Delicious Pizza and no reaction. The problem is the time we were made to wait. We watched people who ordered long after us get their pizza eat and leave. After 45 minutes of waiting (we checked out receipt to see what time we ordered), we spoke to the manager who advised it takes longer because of the GF crust. My son had a regular pizza and it had not come out either. An hour after we ordered, I got my GF pizza and a few minutes later, my son got his regular pizza. We were refunded the price of the small regular pizza. I informed the manager that I had eaten at other Mellow Mushroom locations and not had this experience when he explained that it takes longer. Good food, and we will visit other MM locations, but not this one again. We are traveling and this set us back quite a bit.
This was our first visit to this location. We are staying in Wrightsville and we had planned on going to Wilmington for Mellow Mushroom c there. But then I found a groupon for this location and was happy! Gluten free pizza for my 14 year old son less than 5 minutes away! It surprisingly wasn't crowded for 7pm on Friday and we were able to park and get seating within 5 minutes of driving up. I saw on their menu than they were serving "new" Smartflour Vegan crusts and it dawned on me that we had eaten at a location in Greensboro a few months back and the crust had been new too. We went ahead and ordered the gluten free/new vegan crust although we wished they still had the non - vegan option. This new crust is a bit thin and doesn't seem to rise at all whatsoever. Not airy, but more of a thick tortilla/crepe texture made of whole grains. They were definitely not trying to copy the good taste of a traditional wheat crust at all. But to get to the point of the poor review....my son are only 1 and a half pieces since he didn't really care for the texture and lack of flavor. Thank goodness. Because 3 hours later....we were in the hotel room with a very sick boy. We never experienced this after any of the other MM locations we've eaten at all over the south. I think perhaps in this beachy, touristy area the staff are all college students on summer break, the restaurant seemed to do a lot of take out, and possibly they don't take necessary precautions for Celiacs. The server seemed to group gluten-free in with diet choices such as vegans. Do not go here if you have Celiacs. Otherwise enjoy the easy access without wait.
my children who aren't as sensitive to gluten as i am have no problems with this pizza. i usually end up with symptoms of cross-contamination which is understandable, considering they are throwing pizza dough in the air and the flour goes everywhere. it is overpriced and not that good. but it's pizza, and i don't have to make it myself.
Had the gluten free pizza, very good. They can also make gluten free chips if you ask with their gluten free dough.
Came here excited about GF menu. Plenty of empty tables. Told we would be put on a waiting list because there were people on the waiting list that had left and hadn't returned. Customer in hand is apparently not as good as a customer who wasn't there.
They put onions on my pizza when I requested for them to not be there. And they must not practice good separation techniques because I was soooo sick that night from it. Definitely got glutened.
Service and pizza were great! No reactions. But, I was a little disappointed after seeing and smelling beautiful, bubbly large pizzas walking by and then having our server place a very small pie in front of myself, husband, and toddler. We judged our order based on looking around at other pies. We didn't realize that a gf dough meant a much smaller, thinner pizza would come our way. We didn't have time to order another so we split what we had and went on our way. Overall, great tasting but gf pie will only feed 1.5 people. Don't plan to share.
