This was our first visit to this location. We are staying in Wrightsville and we had planned on going to Wilmington for Mellow Mushroom c there. But then I found a groupon for this location and was happy! Gluten free pizza for my 14 year old son less than 5 minutes away! It surprisingly wasn't crowded for 7pm on Friday and we were able to park and get seating within 5 minutes of driving up. I saw on their menu than they were serving "new" Smartflour Vegan crusts and it dawned on me that we had eaten at a location in Greensboro a few months back and the crust had been new too. We went ahead and ordered the gluten free/new vegan crust although we wished they still had the non - vegan option. This new crust is a bit thin and doesn't seem to rise at all whatsoever. Not airy, but more of a thick tortilla/crepe texture made of whole grains. They were definitely not trying to copy the good taste of a traditional wheat crust at all. But to get to the point of the poor review....my son are only 1 and a half pieces since he didn't really care for the texture and lack of flavor. Thank goodness. Because 3 hours later....we were in the hotel room with a very sick boy. We never experienced this after any of the other MM locations we've eaten at all over the south. I think perhaps in this beachy, touristy area the staff are all college students on summer break, the restaurant seemed to do a lot of take out, and possibly they don't take necessary precautions for Celiacs. The server seemed to group gluten-free in with diet choices such as vegans. Do not go here if you have Celiacs. Otherwise enjoy the easy access without wait.
