First: Staff at Mirkwood are very conscientious about food sensitivities. When I first mentioned my celiac disease, the bartender stressed that safe food was a civil right. The cook came out to take my order and assured me that he considered keeping me safe part of the job. We chatted with the owner as well—have I mentioned that everyone was very friendly?—and he mentioned close friends/regulars who are gfree by necessity. Kitchen also accommodates vegan and vegetarian diets.

Now the venue: super fun and family friendly pub. Lord of the Rings themed. They host weekly drag shows, karaoke, and live music—there seems to be something going on every night. They have an in-building tattoo shop and apothecary shop, and every other Saturday, they host a mystical market. The cook, noticing my aesthetic, made sure to tell me that they plan to add a goth night to their regular schedule.

We went Sunday for jam night, and enjoyed the assorted local talent that got on stage.

Prices are quite reasonable. Drinks have themed names and reasonable prices, but they aren’t fabulous.

Overall, it’s fun, safe, and I know that I can go anytime for fun, good food, friendly people, and go home NOT glutened.
