I haven’t had great experiences here. The first time was fine, I had tacos and didn’t feel ill after. The second time, I had a mild reaction, and sure enough, the grilled elotes (corn) had gluten per my Nima sensor after testing the leftovers, despite assurance that it would be safe (of course they can’t guarantee no gluten, but it was enough to make me feel sick). I now avoid this place if possible, but recently went for a friend’s birthday on a busy Friday. I ordered a margarita and they brought it out, I had some, then a few mins later they said “Sorry, that’s not your margarita!” When I asked what I just drank (some of their cocktails, like the paloma, have beer), they dismissively said they didn’t know. Only after I said I NEEDED to know considering I have celiac did they figure out it was just the wrong flavor, so luckily no gluten. For food, this time they said they couldn’t clean the grill at all, so I just got guac and corn tortillas. I appreciate the transparency, but yeah, not a great place if you have celiac.

There’s not really a lot of gluten free options, and the tacos are kind of standard. I’d just recommend going to taco Buddha. Their mango agua fresca is good though.

Updating to reflect their change in procedure. Came back a year later and they said they now have cross contaminated chips and cross contaminated corn tortillas, as they use the same flattop as they do with flour. Sadly, not Celiac safe

I love Mission Taco! I have a gluten, dairy and corn intolerance and every time I eat they are so accommodating and happy to make many substitutions to make sure I can eat there. I ask for burritos to be made into bowls and they are so delicious.

Excellent tacos! The menu clearly labels the gluten free tacos. It is not a wide selection but there are at least three that are gluten free and they are all very tasty. Stick to that and you won’t have issues. Avoid the tortilla chips they are in the same fryer as all the gluten. Also make sure your server knows you have Celiac and to keep the gluten free tacos separate from anything others in your party might order. If you do that you will be okay.

Delicious tacos! So yummy I wish I had ordered more than three. Very good for lunch. The service is fast and the server and kitchen are very informed about Celiac and able to customize meals to be gluten free. The menu also highlights what is gluten free. Sadly the tortilla chips aren’t gluten free!

GF items marked on menu. When I told the waitress I had a severe gluten allergy, she made extra notes and said they were able to change gloves. Very delicious tacos, and didn’t get sick! You get one extra refill on salsa (chips aren’t safe) but you can get it to go so my husband eats the chips and salsa there and I bring the refill home to eat with gf chips! Such good salsa!

All gluten free options are labeled GF. I have celiac disease. Have never been sick from eating here.
Yes
They knew about gf and knew to advise me not to have anything fried in the frier, including tortilla chips. I was hoping for some more options, but there are definitely a few that I could enjoy. No adverse affects!
Let me start off by saying that I was excited to finally find a Mexican restaurant that offers “gluten free food”. My girlfriend has celiac disease so we always try to find legitimate and dedicated gluten free menus. Upon arriving we asked about cross contamination, dedicated fryers, etc. Welp, no dedicated frier, no dedicated work spaces, both flour and corn tortillas are heated on the same place. My girlfriend ended up getting “naked carne asada tacos”. Which are essentially just slices of steak with guacamole lol. Thankfully she didn’t get any reactions so that was cool.
Now for the bad:
No legitimate dedicated gluten free options. Despite whatever they have available it’s more for people who have a gluten free fad diet. The problem is that this restaurant treats it like a fad diet even with people who have the actual disease.
Our waitress was rude as hell. She had an attitude over us asking simple questions about gluten free food. You know, the stuff that’s on the menu.
My California burrito looked like cat food.
Too long didn’t read version: the term “gluten free” is becoming a trend without people taking actual precautions. If you wanna make tacos make them at home without getting worried you’ll get sick.
No
Lots of gluten free options as they have a separate menu. Portabello mushroom, carne asada! Cheese dip has to me made without chorizo.
Previously I had great experiences here, but the last two times we have been here the waitress did not care.
No
I called ahead and asked about GF menu items and kitchen safety. They knew about contamination in the fryer so advised me not to order anything fried. Burritos can be made without flour tortillas. The tacos are GF when you pass on the fried shrimp or fish. Some tacos come with fried garnishes like onions or jalapeño but my server knew to order them without those. Can’t eat the chips but the street corn was delicious. I have celiac but I don’t have GI symptoms, so I can’t tell if I was “glutened” but they seemed knowledgeable and familiar.
So they do not have a dedicated frier, but the waitress made sure everything we had was Gluten free and not fried. The food was awesome!!! We had almost one of every Taco between the whole table and everyone enjoyed what they had. The burritos are huge!
Mexican street corn is amazing! Tacos are amazing, chips are not in dedicated fryer would have loved to have some
Enjoyed my food. Waiter almost served me common fryer fries (he thought they were gluten free) but the cooks in the kitchen caught it and let me know. Really liked the street corn as well.
Excellent tacos and almost all were gluten free. They were able to change the taco special to a gluten free corn tortilla. They also make mean margarita! Will definitely be back!
Yummy, yummy tacos that are a bit different than the usual. When I went, I was told by the manager that the chips were not fried in a dedicated fryer, so no salsa or guac for me. Normally I avoid Mexican eateries where I can't eat the chips and salsa, but the tacos are so unique and the mexican street corn is amazing enough to make up for it!
Yes
Duck tacos with pork-belly. Enough said :-)
They use Mission brand corn tortillas which are gluten-free. The majority of their tacos are gf except for the fried fish taco and the chips are not gf either. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. A must try in the loop!Check out more: http://www.glutenfreepearls.com/2013/10/gluten-free-mission-taco/
