best gf bagel i have ever had. it was so nice to be able to have a “normal” experience at a bagel store where i could get it toasted with cream cheese and not have to worry about cross contamination since everything was gf! Also got a cinnamon bun which was delicious! most definitely recommend this place!!!!!!

Best GF bagels ever!!

We had a few different types of bagels (e.g., cream cheese, farmer’s, good day mates) and was very tasty.

Recommend sesame bagel as we found Everything bagel a little salty.

Amazing! My husband is not gluten free at all, and even he agreed it was probably the Best bagel he's ever had!

Seating is limited (only outside) but there are some benches to sit inside when it's not packed. It can get really busy but the service is amazing and streamlined.

So incredible you won’t believe it’s gluten-free! Seriously, as someone who can eat gluten, I did a double take. I had to reassure my wife that everything was in fact 100% GF. They also have vegan cream cheese and vegan eggs, and I had a legit tasting breakfast sandwich for the first time in a long time (dairy and egg allergy). I also did a double take on the vegan eggs, and my wife thought my vegan cream cheese was real, too. I don’t know how they’re doing it, but they’re doing everything right. Don’t wait another second to try this place. We might have to move to New York just for this.

What else can be said about Modern? It is the place to go for GF bagels in NYC. The bagel sandwiches are divine and so are the baked goods. It gets crowded, so I recommend placing your order before you get there if you’re in a rush. The bagels also freeze very well.

Modern Bread and Bagels makes THE BEST gluten-free bagels I have had in my entire life. I place an order every time I'm in the city, and then of course I add on cinnamon buns, cookies, breads, loaves, or anything else that looks delicious. I've even had it shipped to my home in Boston - it's a great option, but nothing beats the selection and freshness of getting it straight from the bakery. Love, love, love!

Bagels were fantastic! I noticed there was a lot of other options like sandwiches and bakery items however I only got the flavor of the month bagel, chocolate chip. The place is very small and you need to squish in. Many people were in and out doing take out which is a very convenient option. The staff is very helpful and they are very friendly people.

After following modern bread & bagel for some time on social media and seeing gluten free influencers post it about it all the time I was looking forward to finally getting to try it. The bagels are very good and filling, maybe even too much so! I got a chocolate babka and it was just OK. I later tried a grilled cheese (breakfast sandwich basically) and asked for it to be on a bagel and they put it on gluten free bread instead. The bread was super soggy and falling apart, they were out of cheddar cheese so they used goat cheese and it was just not a good meal at all. This place is OK. The best part is the bagel.

Such a great New York bagel spot! You would never know everything on their menu is completely gluten free and coeliac safe. I was in NYC for 5 days and visited twice. The vegan cream cheese for anyone else who is dairy free, tasted even better than the real thing. I also had a glazed doughnut that was so delicious I have serious regrets about not buying a box to fly home with. Please open up in London!!! We are seriously missing a dedicated gluten free bagel spot.

Wow. What a treat to find an entire GF bakery. I have been here a few times and tried multiple things on the menu. A bagel sandwich is by far my favorite. With many options, you can get whatever sandwich you’re craving. Personally, I couldn’t tell that the bagel was GF (but I haven’t had a gluten bagel for over 10 years). Will definitely be back next time I’m in NYC.

Stopped by a few days after visiting the location in UES. The bagels are still deciduous here and so are the baked goods, but maybe something was off the day I was there. I waited literally 20 minutes for two plain bagels - not a sandwich - and had to go up and ask for them because they never came out. 🤷‍♀
