New City Microcreamery

I ordered a birthday cake from New City’s website and selected only the (clearly marked) gluten free flavors and left a note indicating that we had celiac disease. I received a call back from the shop the next day describing the precautions they take and proactively confirming that all of the options we chose were safe, and the package was labeled “gluten allergy” at pick up. The cake was delicious and no one reacted. We will definitely be back!

The restaurant has a speakeasy in the back with a full menu for bar snacks and dinner. The waitress said there was no way for the speakeasy to avoid cross contamination. There were ice cream drink options, but the waitress said there was nothing on the food menu that they could make gluten free for a celiac.

Told them I had a gluten allergy, she washed hands and put in new gloves. For a fresh scoop, a “new” container of mint chip ice cream and served me my cup of ice cream. Felt safe. Pretty funky place. Today they had flourless chocolate cake and macaroons. Bright restrooms. Service was a little slow and I thought a little expensive, but it’s been so long since I’ve had ice cream out. Who knows?!!!

Never seen a food place with better allergen awareness ever.

Scrumptious ice cream with some unusual flavors here. The Pistachio Fennel was amazing! Unfortunately, they are not on the ball with clearly marking gluten items on the menu board thus the low rating. Twice I ordered & much to my dismay (& the people waiting behind me), the board was incorrect & I had to rethink my selection. Server apologized repeatedly stating that only the manager is allowed to write on the board. She got a clean scoop & dipped from a new container upon request. Too much room here for human error so I can't rate as Celiac friendly.

When you tell them you're gluten free, they take a new scoop and open a separate ice cream container. Every flavor is labeled for allergens. Really awesome ice cream and great place in general.

Chocolate Avocado Vegan Ice Cream 🙌

Unusual flavors, super yummy ice cream. Staff were well trained, asked if I was GF by allergy or preference. When I said allergy, they got out the allergen binder to double check my flavor choice, washed hands, got clean separate scooper, and dished my ice cream from a new container. All efficiently and like it was business as usual. We will definitely go back next summer!
