Awesome place and naturally GF entrees! However, check on the injera bread - the server wasn’t sure if it did or did not have gluten but offered to make rice instead.

I am very sensitive to gluten from wheat and barley. I have never had an adverse reaction to any food prepared at New Eritrea. The staff are incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable about gluten allergies. While they do not have a specific gluten free menu, most of the items are gluten free and they usually have GF injera on Monday and Thursdays. I recommend calling ahead to confirm to be safe. Lastly, the food is delicious and well portioned. There are many traditional Eritrean dishes to sample and they all have distinct and well-developed flavor profiles. Oh the honey wine is also gluten free so enjoy a glass to balance the heat of the mitmita!

Delicious Eritrean food. Waiter was very knowledgeable. He steered us away from the teff injera though, since that day at least it has been cooked on the same griddle as regular injera. So make sure to ask. But almost everything else on the menu was gluten free. Did I mention it's delicious?

They take allergens seriously. But sometimes they run out of the gluten free injera. They made rice for me when that happened. They also served the glutinous injera separately to my party. I scooped a serving of the dishes into a separate plate so I could safely eat before everyone dug in with their injera. Also note that if you have dairy allergies, a lot of stuff is made with ghee. But you can request some things made with oil instead, just ask.
The main bread, injera, is gluten free. Ask the wait staff about the dishes, but I think most/all are GF as well.
