Yes, they have a gluten free menu and didn't have to dig for it in a drawer at the hostess stand. Waiter was not that familiar with the gluten free menu but went far and beyond to meet my needs. Food is good and the margarita's are fab...

Tried to eat here in July 2016. The chips are fried in the same fryer with wheat foods. The server and whoever he spoke with were very confused about what is and what is not safe for celiac customers. I want to like On The Border but they haven't earned it yet. Instead try Matts Rancho Martinez just on the south side of the turnpike (190). Matts is very celiac friendly.

This is a restaurant that I have been to at least once on each of my trips to Atlanta over the past several years, when I visited my mother. I've not had any issues from my meals eaten there on any of these occasions. Their GF menu does warn against cross contamination, but I've yet had any issues. The GF menu doesn't appear to be updated with the New items that appear on their menu and it is a bit difficult to understand what you are looking at (as far as category on the menu). There are some good options. I've had the Queso Chicken Grill with cilantro rice and vegies. I'd enjoy more of the Queso sauce on the chicken and I think the flavors might be enhanced with some lime wedges. My BID disappointment is that the chips are NOT GF, so while others get to enjoy munching on them as we wait for our meal, I have to sit there and pass up one of the things I've always enjoyed about having Mexican food before learning I had Celiac. That's one reason for just three stars...they make no effort to provide any chips that we GF'ers need, and they don't have, or didn't offer, any other sauces that might be added to the food to enhance flavors. I'm not a big fan of cilantro, but the serving portion of the cilantro rice was meager at best, regardless of it being on a GF plate or not. This isn't one of my first choices when I'm in Atlanta, but it has been a safe choice so far.

I usually bring my own chips to On the Border but didn't have any this time. We asked the waiter if the chips were fried in a dedicated frier or if they were in the same oil as other things. He said they have two separate lines at this location, with the chips being fried by themselves in the back line. He confirmed with the manager that they were gluten free. I ate a few and waited a few minutes (usually I get a headache pretty quick if there is a problem). I didn't have a reaction. Really nice to not have to worry about bringing my own chips! Note: I am gluten intolerant, not celiac, so still might not be safe for some people.

GF menu consists of a page in a binder listing which menu items can be GF. Choices seemed pretty limited. Chips are no longer fried separately so while there is an extensive list of GF dips, I'm not sure what you'd do with them. Waitstaff didn't seem particularly knowledgable about gluten, but then also didn't appear to care about much at all.

Be careful here. I have eaten here and walked away feeling fine other than feeling bloated from what I'm sure is tons of msg. But I have gotten sick here also. Not full blown sick, so maybe it was traces of wheat or possibly sharing a fryer. I had chips, salsa, and nachos that I asked for ground beef instead of fajita meat (this is how I ordered before GF). Since I don't always get sick here, I think the time I did that it was the ground beef (I am sure the taco seasoning was not GF or had traces of wheat in it). I would stick to ordering fajitas with NO seasoning (oil and salt only!).

I asked the manager why the chips were not gluten-free. The manager told me because other locations cook the chips in the same fryers as the wheat fried foods. Corporate does not make the chips gluten-free on the menu because of that. But the Lawrence location has a dedicated fryer for the chips because the main manager there has a friend with celiac disease.... so she accommodates basically her friend. She said other locations DO NOT have dedicated fryers.

I don't understand why they don't have their prepackaged gf chips that they sell in the store available for those that cannot have gluten. Anyway. I bring my own so I can have salsa and guacamole. If you have an actual problem with gluten like me, this probably isn't the greatest place for you. Cross contamination is a big problem (enough to get me sick) even if you state you have an allergy. He brought out the gluten free dish with onions made with soy sauce (not gluten free) I sent it back but still was not feeling well with the gluten free dish sans onions.

I would rate this "On The Board" as a zero! They do have a gluten free menu. I talked to the waiter and then ordered off the gluten free menu. I ordered steak fajitas. They brought me a flour tortilla in stead of corn tortillas. When I took a bite of it I realized it was not a corn tortilla. Needless to say I removed it from my mouth. Come to find out the whole meal was cross contaminated. I would not recommend the place to anyone.

They said that they would talk to corporate and get it straightened out. So they made me some scrambled eggs - we felt that was safe.
