Pearl District Restaurant

Pearl District came highly recommended from family and friends. Before going in, my assistant called them to discuss my gluten/dairy allergy. The man who picked up the phone was very rude to my assistant and refused to walk through the menu to know what was gluten free. He claimed they handle gluten allergies all of the time and to come in and order and they'll customize the dish. Despite his arrogance on the phone, I trusted the Yelp reviews. The waitress was great and assured me I'd have no problems. I was in a business dinner and we ordered a variety of appetizers and she said all of them would be fine. When the brussel sprouts came out, I asked her if they were fried. She said they were and were in a shared fryer. I told her that would not be OK and that I'm celiac. I didn't eat these. For my entree I got the pork chop, which she enthusiastically claimed would be OK. It came out with a teriyaki-like sauce all over it and the waitress made sure to assure me that the sauce was gluten free. The food was certainly good, but I wouldn't claim it was great. Overall it was an enjoyable meal. About an hour after getting home, I started to feel sick. I had been glutened. For the next 48 hours, I felt terrible. I was nauseous and sick to my stomach. I did not eat anything else that day besides some gluten free bars I've used as snacks for years so I'm very confident Pearl District made me sick. Despite their overwhelming confidence in their ability to cook gluten free, I had been glutened for the first time in several years.
