Do not suggested going here.. they were very unsure about what was safe and thought corn was gluten. The waitress explained they would cook a burger on a separate skillet for me (luckily it wasn’t busy at this time). You could get a salad though!

I called Pier 101 before I went for dinner and they assured me they had options for me. When I arrived the same day I told the waitress I had celiac and asked her to confirm my options were safe. I decided on burger w no bun and a side of grits. She confirmed both options were recommended for gluten free and safe. I ate the meal and got sick before we even left the restaurant. My meal was not gluten free and I became extremely ill.

This restaurant used to have amazing gluten free options (never got sick) but now it seems nothing is gluten free, even options that should be naturally gluten free (grits, burger etc.)

What would have once been a five star review has dropped to one.

Previously, Pier 101 had delicious GF (celiac safe!) fried food - fish, shrimp, chicken, fries... All of it tasted excellent, and none of it made me sick!

Flash forward to now - hardly any GF options, and those that exist are mediocre at best. The last time I was there, I had grilled tuna and veggies that left a lot to be desired.

I hope they return to the delicious, high-quality GF foods they had before. I would definitely change this review if they did!

We used to love going as they had so many GF options and dedicated fryer. First they switched to non GF fries and then summer 2020 they switched to gluten in most of their formerly GF meals. Even for those in the family who eat gluten they think these changes make meals taste worse. After these changes, our rating falls from A to F.

GF options used to be many and tasty. This place went from a weekly must to a never again unless they change back to using corn based cooking.

Staff was knowledgeable about gluten allergies. Food was mediocre, though (I thought!) it was nice to be able to eat fried food. Everything is fried in cornmeal. Earlier reviews stated that fries are fried in a dedicated fryer. As of my visit a couple days ago, fries are still fried in their own fryer, but they changed the brand of fries they used to one that contains wheat, so fries are currently not an option. Regardless I was feeling pretty good about my fried chicken tenders until it made me sick. Not sure what the issue was, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place for Celiacs.

Delicious food, beautiful view right on the beach. They use cornmeal instead of flour in their batter, so all fried seafood is GF! I had the fried shrimp, fried flounder, and French fries and all were fantastic. They have a dedicated fryer for the gluten free fried items. The fried Twinkie dessert is not GF, but it is cooked in a separate fryer so no cross contamination. Highly recommend!

While mostly fried, excellent GF options. Awesome view of beach.

Decent food and service. I’m giving 4 stars because they claimed all their fried food to be gf because they use corn flour as the breading, however they didn’t seem very knowledgeable about the rest of the menu. Just told me to avoid anything with a tortilla or bun. I did order the fried pickles (felt fine afterwards) and the citrus shrimp salad. I did read other reviews saying they fry their homemade (gluten) twinkies in a shared fryer.

Wow! Separate fryer —all breading is done with corn. Was able to have fried chicken tenders, French fries, fried deviled eggs and a steak taco in lettuce wrap without any problems at all! This was one of our go to places during our stay at Folly Beach. Felt confident eating there.

Celiac safe. They talked up their fried foods being safe but luckily I read other reviews saying the twinkies were fried in same fryer. I had salmon, rice and spinach and did not get sick. I even ate crab dip with celery instead of pita and I was safe. My daughter has celiac also and she had cheeseburger no bun and corn. Taste of food was average.

Fries are in a dedicated fryer just be careful they will tell you everything is breaded in corn flour but upon further questioning they fry that stuff in with the twinkies dessert. So if your super sensitive I would stay away from the fried food other than the fries. I had the loaded fries and wedge salad and both were yummy!

This is a very good place to eat GF but in general the food is not very good. You can get any sandwiches without the bread or the fried seafood. Fries are also GF. The host, server and the manager were knowledgeable and answered my questions well.

Manager and server were super knowledgeable about gluten free. The fries are fried in a dedicated fryer. Many seafood options and burgers/sandwiches without the bun.
