I dined at Rania during D.C.’s winter 2023 restaurant week. Rania offers a three-course menu for restaurant week, from which dinner diners could choose an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $55.00. While Rania does not mark gluten-free items on its menu, the server was very aware of which dishes were safe (for my friend with gluten intolerance and me with celiac disease). Unfortunately, the menu is rather limited—only three of the appetizers (two if avoiding cross contamination), two entrees, and two desserts were safe for those avoiding gluten. That said, everyone in my party was was very pleased with their food. I had the chana masala panisse for my first course, paneer for my second, and mango sorbet for dessert. It was all FANTASTIC. I could not have asked for better dining experience. I also felt very safe in what I was served—I had selected the ash-roasted sweet potato chaat as my appetizer, but was told a few minutes later that I would need to choose a substitute because of cross-contamination risk. Overall, I loved my dinner at Rania. I hope to return for dinner and drinks outside of restaurant week, so I can sample items from the larger menu.
