Went to Root Food + Wine in Augusta, Mo last night for dinner and what a wonderful experience!

The offer a prix fix menu with 3-7 courses, and a majority of their items are gluten free. (The chef has family with celiac, so it's important to them to recognize the need and provide amazing food - check out their website for the story)

Our party splurged and did the Chef's tasting, which was 7 courses. 2 starters, 3 entrees, and 2 desserts.

Of the 2 starters offered on the menu, only 1 was gf, for me personally I was happy to double up on the same starter, but was so surprised when they brought me an off the menu 2nd starter that was gf and so delicious!

I also have to navigate menus to avoid beef for an allergy I have, but this was incredibly easy as well. They offered 4 entree options of which you pick 3, and only 1 was beef based so no issues feeling as I was missing out. But to be honest, all 3 options I did have were amazing and would have been thrilled if I had to repeat something.

Both desserts on the menu were gf and omg good! (I have seen their menu have a mix of gf and not gf desserts at times, but after my experience last night, I feel like they would have no issues accommodating dietary needs if that was the case).

What I was so amazed with was the lack of a dog and pony show I typically have to go through when eating out to ensure feeling comfortable that they understood my needs. The menu is clearly labeled and the staff knowledgeable. And to top it all off, this was over Valentine's weekend where their tables were constantly occupied, but not once did I feel the need to be concerned that my dietary needs would be overlooked or pushed aside.

For a 7 course meal, the portion sizes are smaller than a single start/entree order, and I loved getting to try so many things in one sitting. For me the portion sizes were actually too much, but thankfully I had my husband with me to help me join the clean plate club. He said he would have been full enough without my extras, and at 6'4" and very athletic, I have seen him put away some serious amounts of food, so I was quite impressed.

If you enjoy the concept of a prix fix meal without making modifications (other than dietary) and trying foods from an amazing chef who has taken the time to create a menu of unbelievable quality, I would highly recommend trying Root Food + Wine
