After scouring the internet, I could not find conclusive information on the gluten friendly-ness of Schwartz.
I decided to go for it. They speak great English and are very knowledgeable about gluten.
If you can’t have cross contamination - the meat is 100% a no go for you. There are crumbs everywhere and the server even asked me if I’m okay with the crumbs. Cross contamination doesn’t bother me, so I was able to order meat in a bowl with some mustard. They do not have gluten free bread.
Their fries have their own fryer and are not coated - so are 100% celiac friendly. They have salads, drinks, and pickles you can buy on the side.
I was able to pay with a credit card, but there are signs saying cash only… not sure what that’s about (maybe I mistranslated?)
I ordered a half pound of the smoked meat (in a bowl) with mustard, then ordered fries and a pickle. I opened the bowl and put fries on top and ate it like that! I took bites of the HUGE pickle in between - it was really good!
The poutine gravy is not gluten free - so don’t go here looking for that classic Canadian dish.

J'ai pris la viande et les frites en questionnant le serveur sur les risques de contamination: il m'a assuré que pas de risque... Mais c'était faux, j'ai été tres malade quelques heures après :(
Famous Montreal deli offers gluten free meats and a fryer dedicated to solely french fries. Does not offer any gluten free bread.
