I spoke with the chef directly, who told me that the tempura batter in my spicy salmon sushi rolls was gluten free. I had him grab the sack of tempura mix then later looked it up online. The first ingredient in it is wheat flour. I do not recommend going here, as I got badly glutened. The chef and wait staff do not understand gluten.

We ended up at Shogun after trying other sushi places that had been reviewed some years ago as GF friendly, but were no longer. I will say we had previously ordered Shogun to go and I wouldn’t recommend ordering online if you’re celiac or sensitive as in person allowed me to ensure cc mitigation was taking place. The restaurant at the very least knows what gluten is and was willing to communicate and let me examine labels to make sure what was and was not safe. Their sushi sauce/eel sauce is NOT gluten free but they do have a GF soy sauce option. I ended up getting hibachi instead of sushi as I was just not feeling confident. It was delicious and I did not get sick. Shannon, our waitress, was incredibly diligent and caring and talked to the chef to make sure everything in my order was GF which was a relief after we had called just about every sushi place in the Fayetteville area and heard everything from “huh?” to “is rice gluten free?”

The staff/sushi chef are knowledgeable about gluten free and can make almost any menu item gluten free. They prepare gluten free items on a clean surface, wash hands and changes gloves and apron. They also have gluten free soy sauce.
