Had the GF lobster mac n cheese and loaded nachos after hiking the Precipice Trail. Food was absolutely awesome and the menu had tons of gf options to choose from!
GF lobster Mac and cheese was amazing!
We ate here two days in a row. Staff takes celiac very seriously. GF rolls were excellent and they have more than one type. I got a grilled chicken sandwich with sauteed mushrooms and BBQ sauce (both days) and potato chips. Both days, they were gracious enough to open a new bag of chips to avoid cross-contamination. We also got the lobster/avocado appetizer, which comes with tortilla chips, and they did the same and opened a new bag. Our daughter got the mini slider cheeseburger with hand-cut fries on the side. She enjoyed her meal (she got it both days as well!) and it was reassuring to know they have a dedicated fryer. I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how! Also, I would typically have been anxious about how crowded the restaurant was, but the prior reviews put me more at ease. No problems whatsoever, and I'm super-sensitive. Good stuff!!!
The staff is well informed about celiac. I had the chicken Emmy sandwich which was delicious. the gf French fries were bland and hard as a rock, I couldn't eat them!
this place has a wide gfree selection. I ordered a boiled lobster meal with a roasted veggie side. Everything was tasty and lobster had nice presentation. No gfree dessert here. I appreciate finding an accomodating place like this in a small tourist town.
Two delicious GF meals. My son ordered the most delicious mac & cheese I have ever eaten. Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
Gluten Free Mac & Cheese! It was fantastic. I will warn you the large is a really large portion. My 20 year old Celiac son could not finish it, that says a lot. Menu was clearly marked with GF options. Our server has Celiac. She went into great detail about what the kitchen does to prevent CC. Three of us eat GF and none of us got sick.
The salad was excellent. The GF Lobster roll was dry. I requested some mayonnaise to moisten up the sandwich. The server complied. The choices of GF cider was limited.
Great place! I wish I lived closer so I could come more often. There were so many options on the menu, it was hard to choose! Ended up with the apple cider brisket sandwich on GF bun and it was very, very good. Got chips on the side but should have gotten fries. They looked so good teasing me from my sister's plate with her gluten sandwich
Went here 3 times during my trip to Acadia and never got sick. I have celiac and they put a special alert on my order. Lots of options too!
Love this place! We ate there three times because I really trusted I was getting gluten free food here. The owner is a celiac and understands. Had great food and felt great afterwards.
I had dinner in this wonderful restaurant! We had to wait twenty minutes for a table that was totally worth the wait! I ordered gluten free lobster Mac and cheese! It was to die for! I just wish it wasn't so far from Illinois!
I'm not used to having so many excellent dishes to choose from. We went back several times during our stay in Bar Harbor. The staff is celiac friendly and welcoming. I shared nachos, had my first fish tacos in ages, and had great Mac & cheese. I highly recommend this place.
I hate to be the odd man out, but my experience was disappointing. I arrived for lunch and requested a table for 1, outside. The host handed me a menu and said I could sit wherever I wanted. I walked over to the patio and realized there were no tables available, only "rail seating" on backless stools. Went back to the host, whose response was "oh, you could sit at the rail!" No thanks. Proceeded to be sat at a table inside, in the back. Took several minutes for server to greet me. I ordered water and a Down East cider on draft. At first the server said they were out of cider, then she returned and said they did have the cider and it would be out in a minute. I ordered a GF Caesar salad to start, followed by a GF lobster roll. Salad came out and it was a generous portion. Dressing was a little heavy on the pepper and lettuce could have been darker and more crisp. Still no cider. Lobster roll with chips comes out - still no cider. The lobster salad itself was good. The GF roll was good, but - it was cold and plain. No butter, no toasting, no warmth. Huge disappointment. I flagged down the server and asked about the cider. She went and got it from the bar and was like "the bartender was busy, so it's not like it was sitting there a long time." She never asked if my meal was okay. The worst part is that I had a GF lobster roll in Manhattan last week that was less expensive and much better - the roll was toasted and buttered, the lobster salad was better seasoned and they had GF clam chowder.
Funky, fun atmosphere. Half order gf Mac n cheese with two veggies and lobster was too much for this gal. Delicious and decadent!
Great food and many GF options. I highly recommend it.
Love love love this place gluten free options galore!!! Yearly visit as its 6 hours away. Will be back next year.
Ate here a few times during a vacation. They have a GF menu and (according to our Celiac waitress) they have a Celiac alert button on the ordering system that clues the kitchen staff to take extra care, like using new gloves and fresh utensils. in addition, the food is delicious. The GF mac and cheese and lobster rolls are great.
Very good GF friendly menu with lots of choices. Great GF mac and cheese. The staff are very informed and cautious. We've come twice this week. Worth the visit.
Ate at this restaurant on June 17 2015. Very accommodating and nice selection of gluten free items. Server got my cheeseburger on gluten free bun order mixed up with my husband's lobster roll on regular bun - he the gluten free bun and I got the regular bun. But they were very apologetic and finally got my order corrected after two trips back to the kitchen with my burger. They also took my order off the bill. I would eat there again even though the server got our orders mixed up.
GF Lobster mac & cheese was divine!!! Such a rare treat. Savored every bite. Husband had lobster roll and thoroughly enjoyed it. Super fresh seafood, great atmosphere.
Excellent food with great atmosphere for a small town feel. Yes they were very careful with the Gluten free food service. It was super busy they still took care in the service and care of the gluten free request.. .
This place is amazingly good and super GF friendly!!! Everything on the menu can be made GF! It's so yummy and delicious! We've gone here everyday to eat since coming to Bar Harbor and will probably continue until we leave...it's that good! I am so thankful to have found this place!
Knowledgeable about gluten allergies and cross contamination issues. Pub style food delicious! Friendly, attentive service even when busy.
The atmosphere is pub like The staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating Gluten free Mac and cheese sliders home made soup outrageously good!
Best place in Bar Harbor IMHO, for a celiac to feel comfortable and have a delicious meal. Baked fries are great, as was my fish sandwich. And the Downeast cider on tap was sooo good!
Most GF friendly restaurant we've been to! The hostess shared she has celiac and our waitress volunteered she is GF by choice--made us confident. Loved their Reuben, fish sandwich, Mac and cheese and lobster roll. The pub fries are baked and delicious!
Best GF Mac and cheese - the lobster in it was just the icing on top! Also had the buffalo dip and chips and was amazing! Totally made my trip to bar harbor completely worth it - this place is amazing!!!!
My daughter had the GF Mac n cheese and loved it!
Most menu items can be made gluten free and are indicated with GF. most, but not all, wait staff are attuned to multiple allergies and helpful. We've eaten here several times and have been very pleased.
Phenomenal to find so many savory gf options on a menu. Don't miss the build your own Mac and cheese. We added bacon and lobster. Lots of appetizers and sandwiches, too. Very knowledgeable staff that takes extra precautions for celiacs. Great service overall. Will be back!!
Great food, lots of GF options. Baked GF fries. GF bread.
My wife and I always go to Side Street Cafe because their staff is very concerned about Gluten allergies, they don't have any problem helping us with all the questions that we make about their way to cook, they have an amazing control to avoid cross contamination, most of their menu is GF and they will tell you if they are not sure about how safe any dish or side would be for your level of allergy. GREAT RESTAURANT AND BAR
Excellent gluten free burger and cider! Lots of gluten free options!!
Great GF selection and GF bread available for all burgers and sandwiches. GF beer also (Bards). Great food and overall experience.
GF menu has plenty of choices I took the Nomad chicken burger. The bun was great. The whole burger was great. Friendly staff. 2$ extra for the GF bun though :(
friendly staff, answered questions knowledgeable and asked kitchen where needed .. had lobster stew which was incredible.. also had crab mealy, which was super bland, don't recommend. plus we had a b.l.a.t., which was great .. they use udi's bread for gf and bake their fries ... I am super gluten sensitive and did not get sick ... I recommend the side street cafe, just skip the bland crab melt .. if you are in bar harbor and wand great fresh seafood to cook yourself chexh out Parsons too just outside of town .. super cheap great fresh seafood
So many gf options! Very accomodating staff. They use udi's bread and their pub fries are baked so they are gf friendly. Lobster stew was amazing as was the BLAT. Wouldn't recommend the crab melt. Very bland. Definitely would go back next time I am in bar harbor.
Wonderful waiter that was more than willing to help. I ordered the hamburger with the GF bun. As is typical, the bun was a little dry, but overall tasty. Loved the GF Pub Fries. Good place!
