Food was good and came very fast. The atmosphere is much more a cafe vibe rather than restaurant. None of the appetizers could be made gluten free but I believe most of the mains were naturally gluten free, but always double check. The kimchi pad thai and regular pad thai were tasty but be warned: medium is MUCH spicer than you think. It’s the equivalent of a Thai Express spicy.

Incredible vegetarian gluten free pad Thai wow!
There’s the Thai aspect of the cafe and a coffee cafe inside as well.

New review (July 2023):
I was so excited about going back to Social Thai, but found it disappointing on the second visit. The first time I ordered in May, the staff told me that only one dish on the menu couldn't be made gluten free. Two months later, there were a number of things that couldn't be made gluten free, including anything that went into the fryer (while I'd been told 2 months before that the fryer was safe). When I asked about this, the person who I spoke with went to ask the owner, who said that "a long time ago" the fryer was gf safe. This did not inspire confidence at all.
The food also wasn't as tasty. While the first time I ate there it was amazing, this time it was only ok. Additionally, we ordered to go, and didn't realize until we were far from the restaurant that they had charged us extra for shrimp on a salad, but didn't actually include the shrimp. So my partner was left with only a salad with no protein, which was really frustrating.
I might still eat there when driving through Ottawa occasionally, but will do so more cautiously.
Original review (May 2023):
The BEST Thai food I've ever had! I found Social Thai through FMGF when driving through Ottawa, and it was so incredibly delicious. All but one of their dishes can be made GF, and they seem very careful and knowledgeable about celiac needs. Rundown of what we ate:
-The calamari was an appetizer, but could easily be a meal. The batter was thick and super crunchy, like onion rings. Underneath was a really delicious bed of grilled or sauteed veggies.
-Really tasty egg rolls!
-The pad thai was the best I've ever eaten. I had stopped ordering pad thai in my pre-GF days because it was often so boring and bland. This was so tasty that I ate the dribs of sauce remaining with a spoon.
-Red curry was really yummy--lots of bamboo shoots, eggplant and other veggies, plus protein of choice. Sauce was scrumptious.
This all fed three people and we had enough leftovers after for a full meal for two.
They were also really helpful with my questions about our additional allergies, which not every restaurant is patient and kind about.
Two notes when ordering:
-I was so convinced by how knowledgeable they seemed, and their assurances that egg rolls and calamari were GF and celiac-safe, that I completely forgot to ask if they have a dedicated fryer. That being said, I am immensely sensitive to any cross-contamination, and felt totally fine after!
-Their menu only has GF next to a couple of dishes (I think pad thai, which are GF no matter if you ask or not). But they can make all but one dish GF. So don't be turned off by the lack of GF marking on menu.
Now we are planning our next drive through Ottawa just to eat there again!

So good, new place to go whenever in town now. Flavour 11/10. Portions are large minus the rice provided. Order an extra.

Delicious! Were very knowledgeable about celiac and cross-contamination. Had a super yummy pad Thai without peanuts. I was told that the peanuts were fried in the same fryer as the spring rolls. The Tom Kha soup was also gluten free and amazing!

Absolutely delicious food and great care to avoid cross contamination! Called in take out and the kitchen took great care to explain which items were GF (anything on main course menu except 1 dish can be made GF) and they use a dedicated GF wok and prep area. All curries naturally GF. Leftovers will not be enough… Definitely going back for more!!

I made sure to outline that I was celiac and others recommended them too. They clearly marked what items were gluten free and it tasted great. Good service, though the place is pricey.

I was told that their pad Thai and curries are default gluten free. No soy sauce added to those. I always feel fine after eating. I would highly recommend this place GF and non GF people! Must try.

Had their pad Thai and it was amazing. The server made a “joke” when he dropped off my food that it was gluten free and my husbands food had a “bit of gluten” then walked away. We assumed it was a joke but my husband got sick later. We’ve eaten here before with no worries and I’d still go back.... but maybe hope it’s a different server lol

Delicious pad thai! I’ve never had a problem here.
