Asymptomatic Celiac

Waitress really seem to not care, she almost went to the extent of questioning if I actually have celiac. I spelled it out for her, which resulted in the manager being alerted. After that I started feel okay. Food was outstanding just as good a I remembered it pre Celiac days. Enough gf sides to make it worth your time, which gf labeled on the menu. Be clear with the wait staff and it will be worth it. Good food, just a slight knock below good smoke in terms of safety, but good smoke was started by a celiac....

After specifically telling the waitress that I'm a celiac and have a "gluten allergy", it took one of my friends making a joke in front of the waitress about how sick I get for her to inform me that even though the Loaded Nachos were marked as gluten free, they are actually cooked in a shared/contaminated fryer. I was mortified by this. How can you label specific items on your menus as gluten free when they aren't? NOT CELIAC FRIENDLY!

I will start by saying I love sticky lips BBQ. I have ate there many time and they have a large number of gf sauces and many naturally gf dishes. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone with celiacs. Over the past 5 years of being gluten free I have gone about 5-6 times. All but once has my order come out with cornbread on my plate or bread under my brisket. The kitchen then has to remake my order while my friends and family's meals get cold. Every time I stress gluten free and absolutely no bread on my plate. I have told my waitress it always happens and to please speak with the cook directly. I have complained to two managers. Yet somehow every single time this happens. This signals to me a complete lack of caring about the issue and if someone is very sensitive I think this is an indication cross contamination can happen due to carelessness of the kitchen. Delicious food but not worth it.

The past two times I've been here, they've brought out cornbread on my plate. On the previous visit, I ordered pulled pork with no bread and specified that I was Celiac- kitchen added cornbread. It took 45 minutes to get a replacement. I was starving while everyone else ate. Last night, I ordered chicken, no cornbread, saying I was Celiac (waitress helped me pick GF sides)- it came out with cornbread again. My companions sat with no silverware while we waited for my food to be re-made. Too many mistakes for me- I'll just go to Dinosaur next time.

I've never been to the Culver location but the Sticky Lips on Jefferson Rd has been a staple in my gf dining since moving to Rochester last year. Their BBQ sauces are all safe and they have many good sides. The waiters/waitresses have all been either very educated or very willing to check. On the one occasion that my plate arrived with corn bread on it, they quickly took it back and recreated the entire plate. Very nice place to eat and some of the best BBQ I've ever had!
