Sugar and Spice has been a go-to for me in Boston! The food is always delicious (I LOVE the chicken and bamboo dumplings and the pad see you), and they have always been very responsive about gluten. I’ve ordered online multiple times where there’s a space to indicate your allergy, when I pick it up, the dishes are labeled, and I’ve always felt good after eating it. It’s rare to find a place I feel comfortable ordering online and doing takeout, so it’s been a great spot!

While the previous reviews were reassuring and there is GF menu, this place does not take careful precautions. We ordered the khao soi gluten free, and in the pile of rice noodles was mixed in a wheat noodle. They also gave us the fried noodles to put on top, which are fried wheat noodles. Our non-celiac family members thought the food was delicious. But I would not come here again.

Absolutely AMAZED that they had gluten free dumplings!! The chicken bamboo ones are the best and I wish I ordered more! The Thai custard dessert is also really good. Didn’t get sick after. A new favorite place!

My go-to Thai place! We order from here all the time, like sometimes weekly. While the taste is not always consistent, they do have a separate GF menu, and everything is always clearly labeled - they put stickers on each takeout container! Order fulfillment is always fast and I’ve never gotten sick.

This place was so cozy, and so delicious! I came here to catch up with a friend after work, and we had such a great experience with the staff. My food even came out with a little gluten free tag on it. Their menu was marked well, and the prices were very good for the amount of food you get! I already can’t wait to come back here!

Absolutely delicious! Came here with a vegan friend and we were able to have a delicious, completely gluten free and vegan meal including chive dumplings. The GF menu is massive, much more than the things most Thai restaurants can make GF! And the mango sticky rice is so good. Highly recommend.

My husband and I got takeout (he doesn’t have celiac) and everything was labeled clearly! The food was delicious, the portions are very large, and best of all I did not get sick!

I did not eat here. I called the restaurant to ask about what precautions they take with their gluten free foods. The only response I got was, "we can't guarantee there is no cross contamination." When I asked whether there was a separate space in the kitchen for GF foods, or separate cutting boards or pots/pans, I was told no. Based on these responses, I would not feel safe eating here as someone with celiac.

One thing though—never order for delivery! It will either come super fast or take two hours (and mostly it takes two hours).

Everything was labeled gluten free and we’ve never had issues eating here. We’ve definitely had some issues with service and long wait times for take out, but my last visit there was much better. Good Thai food and great location.

Food can be inconsistent (sometimes there’s almost no sauce on food or beef seems like leftover portions, other times it’s insanely good) and typically takes a lot longer than estimated for pickup, but I’ve always eaten safely and I love the dumpling options! They’re not typical dumplings but the closest I’ve found in a restaurant. I will say for pickup sometimes all items have a gf sticker and sometimes only the biggest/top item does, but I’ve been fine every time.

As much as I love it here, I do not think it is safe. Sometimes they label the peanut sauce as gluten free, sometimes they say it’s fine, sometimes they say it’s not at all. And every time I’ve gone I’ve gotten sick... so sad! Was a favorite of mine before I got diagnosed and they do try!

I’m writing as a warning to others and in agreement with another recent review. A friend very kindly got my wife and I “gluten free” take out from this restaurant. The gluten free items were clearly marked, “gluten free,” on the packaging and the food was absolutely delicious. However, soon after eating, my wife and I both had the same issues we experience after we eat gluten, and pretty severely at that. I would recommend avoiding getting “gluten free” takeout from this restaurant.

I’ve been here 3+ times and they’re always very understanding and accommodating. They have an extensive gluten free menu and I always leave happy!

Edit: I have ordered takeout twice in the last couple of months. The first time, they forgot to package my rice. The second time, I had a reaction. The containers usually have GF stickers on them, but that time they didn’t despite the fact that I put “gluten allergy/celiac” multiple places in my order. The kitchen said over the phone that their curry is always gluten free, so I took the risk against my better judgment. Long story short- safe when you’re dining in, less safe when your ordering out.

The staff is knowledgeable about which items can be made GF. They rinse their woks between use but they did wash mine with soap and water when I requested that be done. (They mentioned this would not be possible if they were busy). For takeout, they write GF on the receipt and put a GF sticker on the container so you can be confident you are eating the correct meal!

Great place! They have a good sized gluten free menu. The staff was really nice and the food was SO GOOD. Totally worth it.

I have celiac and recently ate here. They have a pretty big GF menu with some great options. We had an appetizer of pan fried veggie dumplings, which were very tasty and I was surprised they were GF. I had pad see ew, which wasn't the best I've had but still good and it's fairly unusual to see it on A GF menu. My boyfriend had pad Thai and did not like it -- it was very dark and they left off the crushed peanuts (when I said allergy to communicate celiac, I think they for some reason thought it also meant nuts...?). The food came out with GF flags. I did not get sick. Overall, the GF options were great BUT the food itself was only average.

So happy to find this place as Thai is my favorite. Gf menu with many choices and my food came out with a gf flag!

GF menu is only in store, not online. However when I called the woman read the whole menu to me. She was able to make Drunken Noodle GF, but it wasn't the same without soy obviously. Not sure about contamination and safe practices on this one, but I didn't get sick.
