For those who are non-celiac, they have some great options: soups that are clearly labeled as being GF (though it’s not clear they’re celiac-safe), prepared foods without gluten ingredients, and gluten-free sandwiches.

For everyone: they also have a decent variety (it’s a small grocery store) of good GF, DF, natural, organic, and local groceries, including produce, canned items, crackers, chips, cereal, refrigerated items, frozen items including a GFDF cookie ice cream sandwich, etc.

For lunch, a celiac friendly option I’ve done for lunch is to get a container of salad greens or sprouts, add some seasoned tofu from the fridge area, and buy some salad dressing to put on.

I have celiac disease but don’t get symptoms I can feel when exposed to gluten. I have had soups and prepared foods here before, and maybe had asked questions that got reassuring answers when I first started shopping here, but on a recent visit this winter I asked a kitchen staff what type of precautions they take to make sure things are gluten free. She said they take precautions for the GF sandwiches but not the other things. I started to say something about how labeling something GF legally means that it’s safe for celiacs and then she backtracked and said I don’t know and you should ask a manager. I haven’t gotten up the emotional energy yet to have a real conversation with a manager but am steering clear for now of all prepared foods here (incl soups, sandwiches, and other prepared foods). Would be curious to hear what other people have found out and if other celiacs have gotten symptoms here. I’m really bummed because it had been so nice to have this as a hot food option.

One other caveat about the soups: some of their soups do contain gluten. For this reason I had avoided eating any soups that were on the same side/next to a gluten containing soup.
