Not amazing food in my opinion but great to be able to eat some old favourites gluten free. It’s very much classic Chinese takeaway menu. Especially tasty after a few drinks!

Really impressed with the quality of the food most of the items you could not tell was gluten free. Very expensive place but well worth it when you need a GF Chinese fix

I have been many times to Sweet Mandarin, but the last 2 visits were very disappointing. My first visit was during the summer where food took 45 minutes to arrive during a seemingly quiet period of the restaurant. The waitress wrote down my starter order for salt and pepper chicken wings as a takeaway main. She apologised when realising the mistake and said she’d enquire into getting something done, but nothing happened. The wings and chips were extremely greasy but somewhat cold when they arrived.

The 2nd visit was more disappointing for lacklustre food. Me and my gluten-eating partner were shocked by how flavourless our food was. However, the caveat was that this was 3 weeks prior to Christmas so perhaps this is understandably due to it being a busy period. I used to absolutely love Sweet Mandarin, but I feel it has declined somewhat in quality over the years. It still remains a very safe option for coeliacs yet the food doesn’t impress as much as it used to.

I recently visited this restaurant and the food was amazing I couldn’t believe it was gluten free it was delicious after 2 years not being able to eat food like this it was the best feeling ever. We ordered prawn toast , salt and pepper box , chicken chow mein and curry sauce it was all delicious I really thought I would of had a reaction to this food as I was so worried but I didn’t have no reaction at all !! I will definitely be returning here again the dedication in this restaurant to gluten free is unbelievable it was worth the 40 minutes travel to get here from Liverpool 🙌🏼😍.

Was so excited to visit here having heard so much about how great it is. But unfortunately it didn’t live up to the hype I’ve seen..we pre booked for 5pm arrived at 4:50 and the place was closed ..so wandered around for 10 mins then went back..it wasn’t like we expected at all not very welcoming and the place was freezing cold ..people sat with coats on! It reminded me of a canteen rather than a restaurant

Service was good but food was no better than I can get from my local takeaway. No warmers were used under the food like in other Chinese I’ve been to in the past so we didn’t finish our mains as they went cold before we could eat them.

The gluten free options were good (I had no reaction) we had the set meal..could have done without the salt and pepper chips..they don’t really say Chinese restaurant to me.

All in all..not somewhere we will be going again. Especially when there are so many other gf places nearby.

Crispy beef, sesame prawn toast, vegetable spring rolls after 9 years of coeliac was amazing. Well worth the 1 hr and 38 min trip

It was so great to finally have a gluten free Chinese meal! 😍 There was an extensive gluten free menu, we had the gluten free sharing menu! The veg spring rolls and the chilli beef was lovely, however I would probably pick my own mains next time as it was quite sweet with the sweet n sour chicken! the restaurant is a little bit dated but all in all a good experience! I didn’t have a reaction after the meal and I’m very sensitive to gluten!

I can’t recommend Sweet Mandarin enough. Zero cross contamination risk. 90% of regular menu is GF, always has a dedicated Gf menu. My friend and I shared the meal for two and everything we ate was heavenly (she is a muggle and said she’d never know it was GF!). The staff are so blooming lovely and helpful. Prices are fantastic. Genuinely the best gluten free meal I’ve had since being a coeliac!

We drive several times to collect takeaway during the Lockdown when only takeaway was allowed and they were brilliant, my little boy is coeliac and loved it. No ill effects. They even wrote us an anniversary card. Definitely recommend.
