Summary: mislabeled gluten free.

I love this place and therefore am so sad to only give it 2 stars--it's not because of the taste (which is great) or the service, (which is wonderful), but rather incorrectly labeled food that was not gluten free. As someone with Celiac's finding gluten free food is an adventure (not usually a fun one) but finding Taste of India was such a great find. I've eaten there without incident previously, and have come to trust the food--which is delicious. However, this time I added something new to my norm and ordered (for delivery) a dessert that was labeled gluten free ... but ended up not being gluten free. I took three bites and thought, "hmmm ... this tastes like a delicious gluten-laden dessert". Before taking another bite, I called the restaurant to confirm that I could continue my indulgence and was told by the person who picked up the phone that they would check -- a minute later, another person was explaining that there had "been a mistake" and that the dessert was not gluten free, as labeled. He said he would tell the owner. It's just a total bummer -- especially as I had written on my order that I had celiacs. While I appreciated the apology, it doesn't change the effects that eating those few bites have. Eating gluten has very serious effects on my body and it's a reminder that I sometimes have to take more steps than making the staff alert, trusting the menu, or trusting a restaurant. Will I go back, yes! Will I be much, much more diligent and only order what I have had in the past. Yes.
