First off, they are not a dedicated GF restaurant so please keep that in mind. They do have GF options clearly labeled on the menu items & a sign asking you to inform the staff of any allergies. But as with any non dedicated place, cross contamination is an issue. I went right before Christmas so they were very busy. I told the cashier that I needed my order with corn tortillas to make GF (just as the menu stated). She didn’t respond. So I repeated that I needed it gluten free & again she didn’t respond. So I asked if she had heard me & she said yes. That was it. She was not rude & they were obviously very busy. But I did end up getting sick after. The food always tastes good at Red Iguana but I would avoid this location if you are a celiac or very sensitive.

All the Red Iguana locations are generally considered pretty safe and well-labeled, so I was excited to see this simplified version in the City Creek food court. They do have symbols on their menu of wheat in a “no” symbol for gluten free. And when I told the cashier that I had a gluten allergy (celiac), she pulled out a binder to tell me what I could have. Some items in the binder didn’t have the gluten free symbol on the regular menu and vice versa. She did also warn me that they do have flour in their kitchen so they can’t guarantee anything. I ended up getting the Tacos Don Ramon. Man, they were delicious. Although, the salsa and pico were a little off from regular (maybe the chefs had an off day), because the pico had a lot more black pepper than usual and the salsa had tons of oregano. But overall everything was very delicious and beautiful. I think I may have had a mild reaction, though, because of nausea a few hours later lasting until lunch the next day and a loose BM the next morning, along with a small rash on my wrist. But I’d be willing to try it again. Like I said, they may have just had an “off” day, and I thought at first it may have been a stomach bug because my non-GF family all had stomach issues and they didn’t eat here—but I don’t know why I’d have a rash if it were just a stomach bug.
