Tempest

I came here with my mom for dinner and had an excellent experience. I told my server I have celiac and she knew everything confidently on the menu that I could have, there were many options for me too, and a lot of things that weren’t naturally GF could be modified. They brought this milk bun bread dish out to the table for us complimentary and the second they served it from the kitchen our server came over and let me know that was only for my mom, as I couldn’t have it - it made me feel super safe and that they were attentive. The manager overheard and felt bad so he went to their sister restaurant next door, Church and Union, and brought me this veggie and dip spread which I thought was so thoughtful! I got the chicken which was excellent! Would highly recommend for a safe celiac dining experience :)

A friend just ate here and said it was the first time all the desserts were safe and really delicious. I looked it up to see what the other reviews were and surprised that there are so few reviews so thought I would share her experience.

Absolutely outstanding experience! All I needed to say to the waitress was that I had celiac and she assured me she understood the care that needed to be taken to keep me safe. She reviewed what I could have on the menu with ease and I had so many options! To the point that most meals were gluten free and I could share meals with my family.

I had trouble selecting my meal because everything looked amazing. I ended up ordering the snapper and a dessert. I’m not sure what seasoning they use on the snapper but it was some of the most delicious fish I have ever had.

Not once did I question my safety or worry whether or not I would be sick. Without question the Tempest will be on my to-go-to list of restaurants to visit in Charleston.

Almost all items on the menu are naturally gluten free or can be modified. Our server was very knowledgeable. I had the snapper. It was the best fish I’ve ever had and had zero issues with gluten.
