This is my go-to place! I am gluten and dairy sensitive and have zero in my diet and have eaten here many times and have always felt completely safe. Haven’t gotten sick once. And food is amazing. My faves are Hawaiian fried rice, yellow curry & terriaki salmon, and the mango rolls.

I would not go back here. On a positive note, they were upfront that they do not have a dedicated kitchen space, which has typically been fine for me as long as they handle foods with care. On the downside, they have quite a few items marked as gluten-free, but their items are not necessarily safe for folks with celiac or high sensitivity.
The server kept pushing the mango rolls, which I ordered because he said they were gluten free. After taking a few bites, I realized that the tofu was FRIED tofu, which they fry in a shared fryer. I know this because when I ordered the Pad Thai, I asked for shrimp and tofu. The waitress said, oh the tofu already comes in it and it is fried, but it’s just a little bit so you’ll be fine, and then started to walk away before I could say anything. The other server quickly chimed in and told her to leave it out because it’s a shared fryer. Knowing this, I think it’s a bad move to put fried tofu into the mango rolls that are labeled gluten free. Needless to say, I was sick all evening.
I will not be going back there. If you do, I highly recommend you triple check all the ingredients. It all tasted fine, and they seem to want to make an effort, but unfortunately you don’t earn points for effort when it comes gluten intolerance.

oh man...I am a very sensitive Celiac that also has a wheat allergy. The maitre'd is TJ and he explained their procedure and care in making gluten free orders. I had the Pra am with Jasmine rice and the bean curd soup. I ate it all...enough for two people. but it was so good. I had absolutely no Celiac reaction at all. I will go back when in town again! Thank you, TJ.

We live in Carson and have a very short list of places we will eat with some consistent food quality and staff gluten knowledge. The Basil is one of those. We usually talk with TJ. The food here has always been good. I usually get the pad thai as I don’t well with the wonderful green curry due to my nightshade problem. Recommended restaurant.

Delicious Thai food! So relieved I can still eat here after Celiac diagnosis. I have had the green curry and the pra-ram and both were delicious. I didn't have any issues. They seem aware of gluten issues and can recommend dishes for you.

Everything was delicious! Will definitely return.

I stopped here for lunch on my way through town and had the Red Curry. The staff was very knowledgable about gluten free. I had no reaction and will be coming back my next time I'm in Carson City.

I'd like to take a moment to reply to Mrs. Pam review. I am the maître d at The Basil. My name is TJ. I have gluten intolerant also. I knew when I had a gluten meal in my system after I accidentally eat them. It is not pleasant at all.
All curries at The Basil are gluten free except Roasted Duck Curry, as we marinated the duck with sugar, soy sauce, spices and herbs.
Other dishes that are naturally gluten free let's say Pad Thai ; we use rice noodle and apple cider vinegar sauce base with sugar and paprika. However some other restaurants may use wheat noodles or even malt vinegar to cook with.
Pra Ram; this delicious entrée cooked over a low heat : the choice of meat is placed over fresh spinach and broccoli with creamy thick curry sauce. Be sure to say no to fried onion as we coated fried onion with wheat flour.
There are plenty of gluten free meal to choose from our menu. Some of them could be made gluten free if you ask for.
Mrs. Pam, I am sorry if you had unpleasant experience after dining with us. We do our best to making sure that everything is in order , enjoyable and safe for people to eat in our restaurant. Just a quick note, lunch items come with cabbage tofu soup(gluten free), salad with peanut dressing (gluten free), choice of jasmine rice or brown rice( except noodle dishes, they do not come with rice) and the last one on the plate is fried wonton a.k.a wheat cracker ( this is a no no for gluten intolerant person) most of the time we hold this cracker out of your plate.
If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer. Simply by calling me at The Basil. Thank you.

I eat here about a year ago and had a very good meal with no gluten problems. I eat here again just two weeks ago. The waitress told me that my meal was all gluten free. I had the red curry with shrimp on their lunch menu. It came with a salad that I was told the dressing was gluten free. No soy sauce. Umm! Just because it does not have soy sauce does not mean that it is gluten free. Well I ended up having a gluten reaction. I think it was the salad dressing. I called them the next day to let them know. They were very nice but kept saying that there was no soy sauce on what I had. I explained that just because it did not have soy sauce that did not mean it was wheat free. They said that they would look into it. I will not eat here again.
This restaurant has great food, knowledgeable staff and will prepare meals with gluten free soy sauce and inform you of what can't be chosen. I've never had a bad meal there
