The Basin Grill

I have been here twice and honestly, I have not been very impressed. I will give them kudos for their safety and prep for celiac safe meals. The staff are also very nice, the location is lovely. However, I think this will be my last time coming here. I’m not one to make negative reviews, I’m pretty easy to please, but I feel this is necessary.

Gluten-free items are marked on the menu, however, options are incredibly slim. Only one appetizer, the wings, have proven to be the better option.. but ridiculous in price at $18 (when you could just go to O’Tooles instead.) Both of my meals have been grossly overpriced for the amount of food provided.

The first time I got the salmon risotto dish that is clearly marked gluten free, and although I know risotto isn’t gfree, it was very unclear that there is no substitution for the risotto. Instead, I literally got just a plain piece of salmon with no dressing. I had to ask for some balsamic. Yet, I still paid the full price of about $26.

I decided to give it one last try, at my husbands encouragement. This second time I got the “lobster Baja” ($26) which was raved about by my waitress. Said it was “a ton” of food and “so delicious.” It was essentially a bland, overpriced salad with a little lobster. There was no flavor, at all. My husband (non celiac) was not impressed with his meal either.

If you’re forced to come here for an event or literally have nowhere else to go, then yeah you can come here for a safe meal. However, I promise you it will be a disappointment.

Our waiter was wonderful and very knowledgeable about celiac! We had the wings, Brussels sprouts, steak with mushrooms, and mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious and I did not get sick!! They also mentioned some items that had nuts so they seem like they may have an awareness of other issues as well. GF items were clearly labeled on the regular menu which I SO appreciate. My husband had the burger with fries (he is not Gf) and lobster bisque, and said it was delicious. It’s so nice to have an option for date night that we can both enjoy!!!!! We will definitely be back.
