Review of The Federal

1) I had a meal here and did not suffer from it, despite the fact that my food had a risk of cross-contamination. The food was fine; neither wonderful nor awful. My wife had something non-GF, and was not particularly impressed. The place itself was dark and not particularly interesting.

2) On the plus side, they were *great* about informing me of gluten hazards. Both the waitress and the chef were really very clear, forthcoming and understanding. Props to them! This is why I list them as celiac-friendly. And that would normally earn the Federal 4 stars from me.

3) But considering the cross-contamination hazards they outlined, and the limitations of the menu, there really is very little here that anyone with celiac can feel safe eating. This is basically a diner (never good for celiac sufferers) with a few more upscale specials, and only one or two of the specials were GF.

4) So when I want food of this sort, I go to Geer Street Garden, which is *wonderfully* GF friendly and has a better atmosphere.
