If you're in Louisville and looking for a fantastic dining experience, look no further than The Fish House! This place exceeded all my expectations, especially as someone with serious gluten sensitivities. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable about gluten-free options and made sure to accommodate my dietary needs without any hassle. The fact that almost everything on the menu could be made gluten-free for just a dollar extra was a pleasant surprise! I opted for the gluten-free fried oysters, and let me tell you, they were absolutely delicious! Cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. All of their sauces are gluten-free and they have a homemade cocktail sauce, which was excellent. My husband tried the gluten-free fried shrimp, which he loved, and we couldn't resist sharing some fried mushrooms too. Also fantastic! What really stood out to us was the attention to detail when it came to safety. The Fish House made it very clear that they have a separate fryer for gluten-free items, which gave us peace of mind. Each meal came with coleslaw, and we appreciated the option to choose between creamy or vinegar dressing. And of course, we couldn't forget about the crispy french fries that accompanied our meals perfectly. Overall, our dining experience at The Fish House was exceptional. Delicious food, excellent service, and a strong commitment to gluten-free safety make this place a must-visit in Louisville. We'll definitely be back for more!

Oh my god, best food I’ve had while eating out in a while! Never been able to have fried fish before so I was really excited and the Fish House did not disappoint! Staff are very knowledgable, and there’s a dedicated gluten free fryer so I feel very safe. I got the fried shrimp which was absolutely to die for, and some hush puppies which I wasn’t a huge fan of (I probably just don’t like hush puppies) but am super grateful that I got a chance to try since I’ve never seen them gluten free before. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

The people who run this place are so kind and patient... And the food is amazing!! I had fried "breaded" scrod and Cole slaw. Delicious! They told me they have a dedicated fryer and they change gloves, etc and put me at ease. The food was fresh and delicious.

It was indeed a great experience! I had the GF scrod fish and chips and it was delicious and safe. No reaction! It is a small place where you place your order at the counter, take a seat and your meal is delivered to you. The “man with the mustache behind the counter” must be the owner. I questioned him at length about gluten-free safety and he assured me they are totally on board with all the protocols. All sauces are GF. Be sure to order the GF hush puppies a la carte, as they don’t come with the meal. I wish we’d had another day in Louisville — would definitely have returned! My husband loved his non-GF seafood platter. Thank you FMGF for showing this place!

Update: I am back in Louisville a year later and got fried catfish with fries and Cole slaw at The Fish House. This year I had a Nima Sensor and GlutenTox test kits so decided to test the food. Testing the fish and fries together with the Nima sensor yielded a positive for gluten found. To confirm I tested the fish only with the GlutenTox kit and it registered a faint result for gluten 😳. I then used another GlutenTox kit on the fries and they yielded a stronger positive result for gluten. I then tested the Cole slaw with GlutenTox and it came back as gluten free. I use these kits all the time and they are very accurate.

Sad but I believe this is a case of cross-contamination at The Fish House. So, I will not be eating there again. I do think they try hard to be gluten free but in a kitchen with gluten, cross contamination is just too easy. Sad, but true.

I ate at The Fish House several times while spending six weeks in Louisville. I had the fish platter with cod, fried mushrooms, and fried oysters. I never got sick once. Adam and David are sensitive to the needs of celiacs and claim to have hosted celiac group events at The Fish House. Most of the menu is gluten free but the onion rings, clams, and Beignets are NOT gluten free so stay away from them.

I have not had fried shrimp and fried mushrooms in so long and they were amazing! I had done my research and found this place. We called before we went and the gentleman assured us that 80-90% of their menu can be made gluten free. When we got there the same gentleman reassured me that they make their sauces and they hand breaded everything so he knows that it is gluten free. I ordered the shrimp and fried mushrooms and they were delicious! The lady that brought our food made sure that the same gloved hand did not touch my gluten free plated food and my husband's non-gluten free plated food. Even though I was reassured I was a little worried I would get a migraine, but the next day, no migraine! Thank you for a great experience and great food!

Ate here before and came back. Noticed a bad review and was a little nervous to trust it again. Asked the man working if I told him I had a gluten allergy and he came to the table and personally assured me that he’s been doing this for years and that everything is separate. And that he serves a Celiac group every year. The food was good but not as good as the first time I ever tasted it
