My family had a Wedding ceremony & dinner yesterday at The Grenville. I could NOT have had a better time Celiacwise. We did let the coordinator know about my need for a Celiac Safe meal ahead of this event and we were told it would be addressed and taken care of AND IT WAS ! The owner himself spoke to me when I arrived prior to the ceremony and explained to me that he also works in the kitchen at times and knows from experience NO GLUTEN /FLOUR is used for anything that goes on the grill so any plain meat CAN get grilled. Awesome. Btw I am a very sensitive Celiac. Fast forward I had an AWESOME meal that not only was safe but delish!!

Came as a guest for a party that turned out to be the family style brunch. I did not have an opportunity to speak with the staff about my dietary restrictions until the food came out family style, which then put me in an awkward position. I asked what on the menu I could have that was gluten free...and then the server asked me what on the menu I could have. If your server can’t confidently tell me what on the prix fixe menu (that has fewer than a dozen items) does not have gluten, I don’t have much confidence. Even asking if the eggs and bacon were prepared on the same surface as the French toast seemed to be a new question that no one has ever asked before and I was told that they were “kept separate”, without much clarification to what separate meant. They brought out eggs, potatoes, and bacon on a separate plate for me and so far so good a few hours later, but I was disappointed that on the whole menu those were really the only things I could confirm wouldn’t make me sick.

Not for nothing, but my sister who verified her order with her specific allergies asked to confirm that the eggs Benedict didn’t have shellfish when the waitress brought it out. The waitress replied “Well, I sure hope not!” and didn’t offer to double check. I don’t think she meant it in a mean or rude way, but my sister didn’t want to risk anaphylaxis so she left her meal untouched.
