Terrible waiter. After making a snide comment about "I get it, you're gluten free", he brought me regular bread. He was rude about explaining dessert options and did not understand cross contamination. Manager was nice and tried to make up for it. But wouldn't go back.
Very excited to see they had GF options with cheeses and desserts. The brownies were delicious! There GF menu had a great selection and our waitress was knowledgeable when asking questions. We put gluten free on reservations and those were the menus they handed us without us asking. Would differently go back for the cheese and chocolate!!
My small son has celiac. Great choices for kids to enjoy!! GF bread for the cheese dips!! GF brownies, rice krispy treats and pound cake for the chocolate dips!!! They loved it. Our server was wonderful as well!
My initial review was good and then the meal continued. So here is the thing, I don't think the staff truly understands what Celiac is and what needing to be completely gluten free is. When they brought dessert they brought my daughter gluten free and then brought me and my mom a plate of gluten containing food. Great, what happens when I did it in the fondue pot? They also brought sauce that contained gluten, while we can separate it from my daughter they should never take a chance. My husband asked for no crutons on his salad (i.e. GF and guess what it had crutons) I am not sure that I would bring my daughter back here and take the risk. Live and learn!
I've had one really good experience and one weird experience. The first time I went, the server was extremely knowledgeable, the cheese course good (but disappointing bc they gave tortilla chips instead of gf bread) and the chocolate really good. Just before the second time I went, I noticed they updated their menu so that the gf cheese course said it came with gf bread. I was, understandably SO excited...however the hostess didn't understand gluten free (and didn't care to) and neither did the waitress, who tried to tell me their regular bread didn't have crumbs and therefore my friend (not gf) and I could share a pot. Thankfully she was more open and we managed to clear matters up and we were able to get separate pots and she was very careful to not mix spoons and made sure every ingredient that went into my pot was gf...however, I was still given tortilla chips instead of the gf bread advertised on their menu. When I asked about this, I was told you have to call ahead for gluten free bread. Not cool. I'll definitely go again because their cheese and chocolate are really good and the server the second time did seem genuinely engaged in making sure I was okay...but I guess I'll have to call ahead to get gf bread.
My wife's favorite restaurant in Dayton. She was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease and we thought we had lost this as an option. We were wrong! We had a terrific experience, staff was knowledgeable and asked if food should be prepared separately (Celiac vs intolerance). Bread for cheese fondue was from local GF bakery (Sinfully Gluten-free) and they used GF lager for cheese fondue. Our favorite part: the GF menus was professionally printed and leather bound, not an afterthought like some places. Great place for special occasions!!
My wife and I went here for our 1year wedding anniversary and we told the server many times that my wife can not have gluten. The first thing we ate was the bread, we asked him and he assured us it was gluten free. Not till later when my wife got sick and had a reaction did we find out that the bread was whole wheat.
Wonderful gluten free menu and very knowledgable staff!! I had my own gluten free dippers and my husband had his (no extra charge). Our waiter brought my husband a spoon that way he could spoon fondue on to his non-gluten dippers. The waiter was extremely careful and knew exactly what cross contamination was--that rarely happens. This was a wonderful experience and I would gladly go back!!
They have gluten free options for dippers. For dessert, they brought out a separate dish with gf brownies, pound cake, and rice crispie treats along with the usual fruit (no additional charge). The waiter was also knowledgeable when I asked questions around ingredients in the sauces for the meat.
They had a leather bound gluten free menu that looked as professional as their regular menu. I was surprised at how well suited they were to Celiac patrons and we had a wonderful experience. There were good options for each course with few modifications and our server was very knowledgable. In our experience gluten-free is not an afterthought at The Melting Pot - I felt pampered rather than accommodated and that's a rare thing in chain restaurants.
I had no idea they offered gluten free options for dessert until my friend asked our waiter if it was possible to get extra fruit for me since I was gluten intolerant. The manager came to our table and and asked if I'd like my own plate of not only fruit, but also gluten free brownies and pound cake. I was so excited to find out they offered those other options and was very pleased with our service.
I've been to this restaurant many times, but this was the first time since eliminating gluten. I was thrilled with the meal I was able to have and honestly wouldn't have been able to tell it was gluten-free if I hadn't known. We did the crave combo--cheese fondue, salad, and chocolate fondue. They provide Udi's rolls in a sealed package so you know there's no cross-contamination. The bread tasted great. For the chocolate fondue, they brought me gluten-free brownies and pound cake (among other things) and they tasted delicious/normal! My dining partner was still able to get the gluten-containing items and there wouldn't be cross-contamination as long as the cheese or chocolate is poured onto the gluten-containing items rather than dipping. The server was very knowledgeable about these offerings as well.
Didn't ever see a gluten free menu but the staff was very knowledgable of all the gf options they have...which are a lot. They can make any cheese gf and they even have gf BREAD! They also have a whole dessert plate with gf Rice Krispie treats, gf cake and gf brownies. It was a real treat! I had to share the pot with my non gf companions so they brought me my own bowl to put cheese and chocolate in. We were all able to cook our main courses together. Highly recommend this place for my fellow Celiacs!
Wow! This is the first time we felt truly comfortable eating GF in a restaurant. My daughter and I both have Celiac. The staff knew exactly what to do and there were GF options galore! I wish all restaurants were this accommodating. We will be back.
Fantastic gluten free menu - they have gf bread for the cheese course and lots of different gf dessert dippers (not just fruit - they had brownies, pound cake, gf Rice Krispie treats and more!). They will also give you an extra burner to keep the gf stuff separate - even if you only have a party of two. :-)
We had a great dining experience! Staff was knowledgable, whole separate menu, my celiac daughter ate a great dinner worry free! The gluten free bread was delicious, the chocolate fondue Poundcake and brownies were delightful! All in all safe, easy and delicious!
Delicious and wonderful gluten free selection! The only down side is your whole party has to be accepting of GF since you share the pot. (Since we went as a special treat for my birthday, I could get away with that!) Cheese course included gluten free bread. Dessert course included gluten free brownies as dippers. They were very accommodating and subbed salmon for one of the entrée selections I couldn't have. Having been here prior to my diagnosis, I didn't feel that the experience was much different. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed coming hete for dinner. They were so accommodating. They could offer almost everything with gluten free alternatives. I wasn't a fan of my entree or my husband's, but that's my own problem. the waiter tried to be very careful and knowledgeable. I was excited that they had gf treats to dip in their chocolate, rather than substituting everything for fruit which is what I planned!
If you need a place for gluten free, dairy free or vegan this is the place to go. The staff is very knowledgeable in gluten free. And the owner herself came over to double check everything. For dairy free people or vegans, if you call a day ahead, they will order vegan cheese and chocolate. As for gluten free and celiacs, Te staff is very knowledgable and take every precaution in making sure you have the same experience as everyone else. From a person who is very sensitive to both gluten and dairy, I would strongly recommend this place. Just make sure you call a day ahead so they can prepare for your visit.
I have been here many times. This place is expensive but the food is very good. They have recently changed a few things though. We used to get a lot of food so we would leave very full and felt it was worth the money. But now, they do not give you as much food so I was not full when I left. Since it is so expensive, and now we get less food, it makes me not want to go back.
