Review of The Old Causeway Steak & Oyster House

There is no doubt that there are things on the menu that can be ordered for celiacs. Although I am not a Celiac, I go often with my niece who is. The day before we were coming, I did call to ask about gluten free items on the menu and the manager answering the phone and I felt very comfortable with the OC because she assured me the staff are all very knowledgeable about modifications that can be made on over 30 items on the menu. But, when I asked my waiter today do you have any gluten-free beer? He replied we have old Belgium glutiny. I informed him that this is a gluten reduced beer not a gluten free beer. When I ordered the Spanish potatoes with a Manchego sauce, I asked him is a gluten-free, and he said yes. When I was eating it I wondered what made the sauce so thick. I asked another server to ask the chef in the back if flour was used for the cheese sauce and she returned, replying yes. So I stopped eating the Spanish fries. I had a lovely burger with no bun and string french fries that I don't believe are cooked in a gluten-free fryer. My niece ordered her usual, the flat iron steak with mashed potatoes. Always good to just stick with what you know.
