I am 99% sure I got glutened here. I dont want to put a restaurant on blast, but I've been sick for days, and I think staff (or management- all the staff i directly interacted with were helpful and concerned) could be retrained on keeping GF people safe (even if that means, sadly, letting us know we probably shouldn't eat anything there. I'd rather get a cocktail from a place and no food than miss a few days of work from being glutened)
I ordered off their GF menu, and it tipped me off that they have couscous listed on that menu, but i figured "maybe I'll shoot someone a message about that, see why they have that listed as safe to eat for people who cant have gluten." But, I've been to places before that are figuring out GF accommodations and everyone will trip up here and there in the beginning.
I ordered a burger with a gluten free bun. Most places i go take the most caution when someone orders a GF pizza or a burger with a GF bun, flagging the food or letting me know a side i ordered is not safe for me to eat. When it came, the bun looked and felt so good i had my boyfriend taste it to see if it was GF. He did and said if it was, it was the best GF bun he's had. I tried a bite cautiously, and agreed with him that it was too good probably to be GF. I asked the waiter if this bun was the GF one, her eyes got wide, she said "I dont think so," she said she'd check with the kitchen to make sure. I dont know what happened but she came back later and said that, yes, I had gotten the GF bun. So I ate it.
4 days of diarrhea and migraine later, I believe I got glutened pretty bad. There was no way that delicious bread didn't have gluten in it, which is so disappointing! I tried looking at reviews for photos of GF buns and regular ones, and all I know is the bun I had is the one showing up in everyone's pictures on Yelp and Google. I did not find any pictures or reviews of their GF bun. I've eaten a lot of places with GF buns, and most use the same few brands, and when the restaurant makes their own bread, it is delicious but still easily identifiable as having no gluten by taste and texture. This just seemed like a regular bun to me.
I dont know where the blame would go if it truly was not GF, whether the kitchen didn't care or the waiter just forgot to go back to the kitchen (she really did seem to care and take extra precaution on a busy night), but I think overall a restaurant that has wheat containing items (couscous) listed as safe to eat for gluten free eaters, has a little gluten training to do if it wants to attract us eaters with picky digestive systems 😩
Super grateful for the people I interacted with, and that a restaurant really wants to be accommodating to a difficult diet, but im about to miss another day of work due to eating something unsafe for me, and spending that day in lots of pain and severe discomfort. Everything else was wonderful, the people, the service, the food that i could eat, the smells from the other food from my table, the drinks (very delicious and unique whiskey cocktail selection!).
As an FYI, I have tested myself for covid a few times since, and have come back negative each time. Im experiencing glutened symptoms- migraine, diarrhea, abdominal pain- with no cough or other respiratory problems, but want to be extra sure before I post a review of getting sick at a restaurant.

While they have a gf menu, the kitchen is tiny and contaminated. It’s not celiac friendly. I ordered and explained my celiac to our server and my meal was definitely contaminated. I’ve had a bad reaction. The gluten free menu includes foods fried in a shared fryer (I did not order anything fried).

Great GF menu selection. While try one on the great KY bourbons and ryes they offer which are GF because the gluten was left behind at the still. THE GF KY experience.
Gluten free menu was provided with a warning on menu about shared flat top and fryers. I have celiacs disease and had the huevos rancheros. So good and no problems after!
