I’m extremely slow in writing this. Visited Tio Flores with friend who has stricter diet than my celiac diet. She also rides in a scooter. They were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable! The server we had knew about gf diet due to friend who has celiac. It’s a little place in a mixed residential/commercial neighborhood. This is not the part of South Street everyone ‘has’ to go to. Now the food. We sampled bits of several dishes on the menu. They were all wonderful! We left stuffed and decided we will definitely be going back. We talked about what we will order next time. My friend can eat gluten (one of the few things that doesn’t rip up her stomach) and had some things I could not. She knows her Mexican foods and was pleased with the flavors, how it was prepared everything. My gf selections were shrimp street tacos for one. I have had street tacos in Mexico that rivaled these. The crisp with no coating on the shrimp edges from the grill were out of this world. The sauce was perfectly balanced (think umami, if you’re a foodie like me). I’m headed back in February and hope we either Uber or can walk (or scooter) to Tio Flores then. One of my faves in Philly!

EDIT for 2023 - they no longer get their chips separately so I was told there isn’t much there that’s safe.
Great food, and some items are safe- they do their chips in fresh oil in the morning and all of their tacos are on corn tortillas. One of the only local places that has a safe and delicious fish taco (not breaded). Make sure you read the menu though as all their staff isn’t 100% knowledgeable. I was told all their tacos were gluten free, but they list pork carnitas braised in beer and seitan, which is literally wheat gluten...

Awesome that the chips are fried separately and that they use corn tortillas. The fish tacos are not breaded so those are also safe! It’s hit or miss when it comes to the staff being knowledgeable — some are very and some not at all. Just make sure you read the ingredients carefully. I’ve never gotten sick here.

Great food, knowledgeable staff
Yes
The food was delicious, the service friendly. Most items were GF or easily could be by swapping in corn tortillas for flour. Lots of vegetarian GF options, too!
