Tio's Latin American Kitchen

They have option gluten-free but I'm not sure the staff is trained properly for somebody with celiac. I got a massive headache after so I assume cross-contamination got me. I'm extremely sensitive celiac so maybe that's why.

Tio’s has a ton of gluten free items marked on their menu, and it is one of my go-to local places. I would still be careful with cross-contamination … they have a frequently changing staff and I’m uncertain how safe this would be for someone with celiac. But, the food is good and one of the better GF options around.

After reading reviews, we tried Tio’s and it did not disappoint! GF items clearly marked on menu. Server was knowledgeable but when he couldn’t answer our question, he asked kitchen & promptly got answer. Had guac & chips; then fried plantain, yucca, & meat appetizer; then 3 fried empanadas appetizer as entree. My husband had pork enchiladas. So fun to enjoy safe, yummy, fried dishes! I had been “glutened” at another restaurant the day before, resulting in multiple canker sores. Even trace amounts irritate for several days. No problems at or after eating at Tio’s. We’ll be back!

Gluten free empanadas YUM! How often can we get those right? Place is big and bright and fun. Food is very good, fresh. Menu clearly marked.

Tio’s has a menu which clearly marks menu items which can be gluten free. I shared chips and salsa with my wife and ate the pulled pork Cuban meal, which was delicious and filling. The staff still could use more training on what is and what isn’t gluten free on the menu.

What a gold nugget to find. I travel quite a bit and finding food on the go can be tough. I got lucky and this little spot popped up on my FMGF app and the reviews seemed pretty safe. I’m celiac and it’s been sucking. So I ask a lot of questions. They were so patient and could answer all my questions like “how can you make and empanada without flour…” they do. The fryer is dedicated. There’s several clearly marked GF options to choose from on the menu. This being my fourth visit (at least once every time I’m in town), I thought I should share how easy and delish this was.

One of my favorite places in town! Servers are always happy to mark my meal as an “allergy”. Chips are fried separately so they are safe.

After explaining to the server that I cannot eat gluten and even a little could make me sick enough to need to go to the hospital, (was hoping the drama would make a point), I still received a salad loaded with croutons. When my very fishy salmon arrived and I asked if it was gluten free she said I wrote down that everything was to be gluten free. So much for that. I’ve been to the HHI location and had a much better experience and a better tasting and safe dinner. Won’t be returning to Bluffton.

Was absolutely shocked at the many gluten free options that were on the menu. I added this restaurant to the list on this app because having celiac AND a gluten allergy (carry and epi pen) eating out is a true challenge. Wait staff very knowledgeable, kitchen made every effort to keep my food away and safe , fresh corn tortillas made on site and the taste was absolutely amazing! Can’t recommend this place enough! Looking forward to going back and trying at least ONE of every item they have marked gluten free! Challenge on !
