not safe for celiacs!!
There are several spots in Dublin so not sure which we went to and maybe this depends on the location, but we went to Umi because they have GF clearly marked on their menu and based on the review I saw in this app. I told the waiter I have celiac and can’t have gluten. She asked “what is that?” (not a promising start) and I explained it was wheat, barley, or rye. She still looked confused and then pointed out that the item I asked about had the GF mark so I was good and they would exclude the bread that comes with it. Great!
My sister noticed as food was coming out that they’d forgotten to take the bread off my plate so they quickly removed it and brought it out. So I very nicely said “sorry, i just want to double check. because i’m incredibly sensitive. that i can’t have gluten anywhere near my food. it can’t be touching.” she then looked surprised and said she didn’t think anything they had was safe but she would ask the chef.
the chef came out and was very very nice and apologetic but said the falafel is fried in the same fryer as everything else so nothing is safe. there was a soup but the chef did say “everything” so i opted to not get anything. again, the chef was super nice and apologetic. comp’d us the meal id ordered and offered a free beverage. they were great! just a bummer they’re not safe for celiacs!
