I came to the Union Straw after reading all these reviews and looking at the menu. Plenty of items labeled AGF. Once we started to order, it became clear nearly all of the things in the menu that were labeled AGF could not actually be done gluten free. When asked what they would replace the Fried Yucca with, they responded they wouldn’t be replacing it, they would just take it off and it would come with out, which was frustrating but I shrugged it off. So I pivoted and ordered salmon with purple potato purée, broccoli salad with herb yogurt sauce. Waitress came over about 10 mins after we ordered and said that I couldn’t actually have the potato puree and asked if there was something I wanted to replace it with, I said any potatoes are fine. My plate shows up with a piece of salmon and some potatoes. So the only thing that I ordered that showed up was the salmon and the meal was 90% different from what I had ordered. When we told them that this was unacceptable, they brought out asparagus with out asking me and said that was the only side I can have. I sent the whole meal back because it was not what I wanted or what I ordered. Strongly discourage anyone from eating here. If you do, ask them to check on every part of the meal before ordering, because their policy appears to be that the don’t make substitutions, they just remove it from the dish all together potentially with out telling you before doing so.

They no longer have a dedicated fryer, limiting the available gluten free options.

The restaurant is awesome, very friendly and took great care to keep orders celiac friendly with baked items over fryer cross contamination.
I ordered wings with the dry rub. A little high on paprika and low on salty/savory, but I hadn’t had wings out for so long, that I devoured them.
Ordered ratatouille, but they had to leave out the breaded eggplant. That left a big miss on flavor, on top of the veggies being sliced and grilled over sautéed in butter with thyme. It was tasty in an “a’dente presentation” that persevered the texture instead of melding the flavors from each veggie preserved by the dairy fat. I also would not have added cilantro to the mix over thyme.
I had the pork belly burnt ends and they were also fantastic even though they were baked instead of fried. I’m not sure which sauce worked best, because my first pork belly burnt ends was very Kansas City while these were plain. I tried the Carolina, but it was heavy on the mustard and vinegar like it should be, and also tried the spicy bbq which was heavy on the spicy and thin on the molasses. I think there is a happy medium sauce somewhere that comes in with a little sweet to compliment the richness of the belly. I think you should ask to sample any sauce to find what works for you.
I cannot stress just how great this place is for people wanted to be truly gluten free. If they can reserve a little eggplant without breading and add the butter and thyme back into the ratatouille I feel like this a real winner of a place! Still no regrets and please give this place a try.

Delicious food, large menu, wonderful staff, only downfall was that the fryers were contaminated so the fries were not GF for celiacs. BUT - our waitress and her trainee were on it to make sure everything was safe for me to eat. Will return!

Hands down the best burger I’ve ever had. Very great about gluten free.

Chef came out and sat with me and my friends who are gluten and dairy free to design a meal that worked for us. Very knowledgeable. She also came to check on us. Handmade chips are delightful!
