Virgil’s is one of my favorite restaurants in the city! It’s also one of the few BBQ places that my family from the south and Midwest request to visit every time they come. The restaurant hasn’t always offered gluten free items, they added this in within the last several years and I couldn’t be happier.
While gf options are listed on the menu, they are still pretty limited. Additionally, while their gf options are great they’re considerably more bland than what they generally serve. While slightly let down, I understand that it’s more for my safety and the safety of those with gluten intolerance. They take their gf items seriously, which I’m very appreciative of as I’ve yet to react to their food.
The restaurant is among those with a Broadway Show dining experience. In other words, if you have a show you need to get to then this restaurant will prepare your food and time your plates in a way that will allow you to get there on time. Just keep in mind that generally the serving sizes here are big, so if you’re not used to that then you might want to consider sharing with someone else.
Also, if you’re with people who can eat gluten then for them I’d recommend the banana pudding! It used to be my favorite and I’ve debated getting sick just to try it again. It’s one of the desserts they’re known for!

The menu is marked, the server asked if GF was a preference or allergy, the manager came by after the server left to let me know the kitchen was aware, my food came out with a colored toothpick indicating GF, and the food was incredible. Definitely recommend!!!

Excellent food, very GF friendly. Will return!
Yes
We went there today and the waitress was great. They have a gf menu. Not a lot of choices for my son but he was thrilled he could have and enjoyed the ribs mashed potatoes and collard greens. Well not sure he enjoyed the greens but hey it's worth s shot! We told the waitress we had tix to a 2:00 pm show and she did great getting our food quickly!
One star only because I couldn't give it zero. Went based on this apps recommendation. Menu states and wait staff all clearly say that the kitchen is NOT allergy friendly.
No
Skip it. The staff is not terribly knowledgable, there aren't a lot of options on the GF menu and the barbecue sauce isn't celiac friendly either. I ended up with a chicken salad and the chicken was dry. The other non-GF diners in our party were also not impressed with their meals. There are definitely better options in the area.
Food really good. Some concerns about the knowledge of waitstaff. Waiter clearly didn't understand GF menu. Manager however helped out. They being said, GF plate arrived with cornbread on it needed to be sent back. Needs more GF educations.
Do NOT eat here unless you want to Have BBQ with the BBQ sauce!!!! That sucks! Their sauce is not GF! We got up and walked out! On a positive note, the waiter seemed very knowledgable about what I could eat just nothing with BBQ sauce which was very disappointing to say the least!
This place knows a lot about GF, and have a social GF menu, We shared a Smoked Prime Rib, it was tender and very tasty, No doubt will return.
