I have eaten here several times, and I am sorry to say I’m disappointed. The food is good - not amazing, but definitely good. It’s definitely overpriced, which is understandable given the needs of a fully gf space. The biggest issue IMO is the new arrangement. No dine-in, only takeout - except all the dishes are designed as if you were eating a fancy sit-down brunch! I live around the corner and would eat here 3x a week if they offered a simple bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for $10. But instead they offer an open-face on a bed of greens for $16 plus tax/tip… which I then have to go eat at the park nearby out of a styrofoam container?

The food is fine, and it is always a relief being anywhere that is fully gf… but I am confused as a consumer. Either be convenient, affordable, and practical - or be exquisite, expensive, and offer a superior experience. Right now this place sadly doesn’t fit either of those purposes - and though I would love to eat here far more often, it just doesn’t fit.

Owner Response

Dear Mags, We also wish we could charge less. Unfortunately, our costs have gone up with everyone else’s, including labor costs. We pay our staff as fairly as we possibly can—-though not as much as we know they deserve! To make sure our food is truly celiac safe, all the menu items are made from scratch: the baked goods, the soups and everything else. Gluten free flours cost several times more than wheat flour, and wholesale prices for meats, fruits, vegetables and all other ingredients have increased significantly over the last few years. That’s just the reality we live with. Our prices are as low as they have to be to keep Wheat’s End going for the community we’re here to serve.
