Being from the Quad Cities I grew up with Whitey’s. While the staff is very helpful and they do have an allergy list, all their ice cream is made on shared equipment. Not safe for Celiac!
Whitey's has an allergen list and a few Gluten-free ice creams. The staff changes their gloves and will scoop your ice cream with a clean scooper out of the original container to prevent cross-contamination.
We’re back to the area for a visit and we all love Whitey’s. Now that I’m GF and DF I didn’t expect to be able to order anything but to my surprise they had a GF/DF chocolate mint. It was so creamy and delicious. The ice cream is kept in the back so I’m sure there was no cross contamination. I’m usually refined sugar free as well but for this treat I was willing to make an exception.

On a busy 90 degree summer night, the staff made no issue of checking the gluten free list, then went to the back to get an uncontaminated scoop, then back to freezer to scoop from clean tub of ice cream. It wasn’t an imposition. Staff was awesome.
