None of my dining experience, with the exception of being given gluten free soy sauce, was even close to feeling safe that I was eating gluten free. I entered this sushi bar for a late lunch. There were 3 other tables in various stages of being served, so I thought I’d be safe. I informed the waitress that I had celiac and would like GF options. I received a regular menu (not a gluten free menu as indicated on findmeglutenfree). I decided to order the sashimi lunch special after asking the waitress if this would be safe for me. She asked what salad I would like with it. After asking which would be gluten free, I decided on the cucumber salad. It was enormous. But don’t get too excited. It was a large plate of sliced cucumber with rice vinegar poured over it. I was given gluten free soy sauce. My sushi arrived. It consisted of 8 small (frozen) slices of sushi, a bowl of rice, and a small glob of seaweed salad (not gluten free). That was my first indication that no one knew that my food needed to be gluten free. Here’s the kicker halfway through my “meal”, an employee showed up with fried eggrolls “on the house”. When I questioned whether they were gluten free, they were whisked away by the waitress. Ummm…now I’m positive that no one in the back of the house had been told that the food I was eating needed to be prepared gluten free. When I received my bill, the salad that I was asked to “choose” was an $5.95 upcharge. Over $20 later, I left hungry and wondering if I’d been glutened.
