Our experience here was divine. Zach runs everything himself, and happily customizes menu items, and was just wonderful to chat with. The food was lovely, so fresh, and innovative flavors. His facility is dedicated gluten free, 100%, so no risks of contamination, and Zach himself is very knowledgeable anyway, but it isn’t a risk. Will definitely be coming back, it’s a quaint, and lovely little cafe, cannot recommend it enough.

Love this place. All gluten free and the chef is very accommodating of other dietary needs. The food is fresh, delicious, and visually appealing. I meant to take more photos but got too excited to eat each course! We came here once before with our teenagers and they appreciated the high-quality meal too. The chef is really nice and clearly passionate about his craft. Looking forward to returning next time we’re at the coast!

Zach's Bistro was a revelation.
We were expecting a rather ordinary meal and received the most interesting and well-prepared meal that I have had in years. I say "interesting" in the sense that everything had something unexpected or a twist on the usual that was both wonderful and surprising.
Best of all, everything was gluten free and safe for me to eat.
The chestnut soup, clam chowder, fried market fish, potatoes, squash, and perfectly cooked broccolini were all terrific. Even the butter tasted more "buttery" than any we've ever had. There seemed to be an excessive use of sprouts as garnish for my taste, but I'm not a fan of sprouts in any form.
The food was served at the right temperatures and the main course plates were warmed. (I appreciate that very much.)
The decor is unexceptional and the ambience is a bit spare, but the music was delightful and at a nice low volume, unlike too many places.
The bill was surprisingly low for the quality of food and service we received.
We plan to come down to Newport more often just to enjoy Zach's Bistro.
Highly recommended.

Very personal and unique dining experience. The menu is updated regularly and I was told everything was gluten free! Great food, fair price, great service. A nice place for a fancy dinner

This was quite the experience. Zach’s kitchen is fully gluten free, which was great. The set up of this place is a little funky, its in an old retrofitted house, but it was worth it for the food. I ordered the 4 course meal, which came with a small salad, a crab cake, cod with broccoli and potatoes, and a flourless chocolate cake. It was incredible. The chef, Zach, does everything himself- he’s the host, the waiter, and the chef. This is not a place to come if you’re hoping for a quick or inexpensive meal, but its worth visiting. The price is worth it for the amount of food and the quality of it, and a 20% tip is included in the prices, so it ends up being less than expected. I highly recommend for a nice meal out!

Zach is a magician! It's rare I get to go out for a foodie experience of this caliber. My husband and I were blown away by the 6 course option. With advance reservation Zach was able to accommodate all my dietary restrictions and was extremely knowledgeable of celiac disease. I'll be dreaming of the duck main course, and the dessert for a long time.

Truly a delight! My husband with very sensitive celiac disease was literally crying with joy because not only is this place safe for people with celiac disease but it’s truly some of the best food you will ever have! We plan to be back :)

Utterly amazing food! You can't miss this place! We had 1 celiac, 1 gluten intolerant and 3 regular humans eating at our table. Everyone loved their food! Zach was amazing and his creativity was out of this world! Don't miss this place!

This was a fantastic experience for my GF/ DF partner and I. Zach was incredibly knowledgeable and had a great variety of options. The food was fantastic! Just be settled in for a longer meal because this whole thing is a one-man show! It’s pretty impressive to see him work.

Amazing!! That is one word that describes the experience. It’s like having a private chef! Attentive to our dietary needs and aware of all we were celebrating with our meal. Excellent dining experience and worth it!

What a great spot! Wine list was deep and all available by the glass or bottle. My wife and I opted for the 6 course tasting menu - all six courses were excellent. The Halibut was cooked perfectly and the Crab cake was the best I have ever had. Great service and great value. Will be back.

We had a nice experience at Zach's. Everything is just inherently gluten free. Flavors are interesting, and there's a good variety to chose from. Zach's is a one man show, so be prepared to relax and spend a good part of your evening!

This restauant was phenomenal!! Not only is it a dedicated facility, but he also is safe with ALL food allergies! He is a one man show...server and chef. It is best to call ahead and make a reservation. The most amazing eating out experience since I was diagnosed 12 yrs ago. It was obvious that Zach went to culinary school! Everyday is a different menu with about 4 different options for appetizers, entrees, and dessert.

Absolutely awesome , so nice to be able to order a really nice dinner with no drama, and my wife liked her meal very much too! (She isn’t gluten sensitive) This is definitely a “date night” kind of place.

I can not say enough good things about Zach's Bistro!! 100% gluten free fine dining!! Zach is the chef and dies service himself. He can accommodate most other food allergies/intolerances with most dishes. He is extraordinarily knowledgeable about celiac - when I explained that I have celiac disease and can't have dairy either he said "oh! Your one of the unfortunate ones who got the one-two hit"! He is quick to point out the few dishes he can't adjust and talk to you specifically about what accommodations can be made. And the food: divine! High quality ingredients, treated with respect and dishes designed with imagination. Everything was delicious. We had the muscles with mustard wine sauce, and Dungeness crab cake for starters. Followed by short ribs with potato croquettes and broad beans, and duck breast with quinoa and huckleberry cider pan sauce for mains. And cheesecake with chocolate caramel sauce, and chocolate cremeux for dessert. Everything was amazing. But the duck was the best bite of the night, and probably my entire year. Service was impeccable, he offers wine pairings as well.

They don’t advertise as dedicated GF on their website but that’s only bc so many people won’t go to an all GF restaurant. They are dedicated Gf and also accommodate lots of other restrictions including dairy. This place is a touch pricey but it was all delish, especially the chocolate torte! Do know that it’s a slow process here…they keep the staff very small and it feels intimate, but be prepared to spend a couple hours here. Not the place if you’re in a rush…just enjoy the leisurely pace and the delish food. :)

Zach’s Bistro is a GEM! The entire menu was gluten free, including a dessert waffle YUM and crab cake. Everything is fresh, most if not all is locally sourced. It’s delicious, flavorful and clean food. I was so elated when the server came over to me and said “you can eat anything! Including the crab cake and waffle” I don’t know if I’ve ever heard that plus she directly pointed out the “usual suspects” of what is normally off limits, which speaks highly of just how gluten free and celiac friendly this place truly is. The cocktails and wine list is fantastic.

This restaurant is gluten-free (every item on the menu!), and the food is delicious. The menu changes daily because the food is locally sourced. For dinner I was served sourdough bread, chinook salmon with a rhubarb mushroom sauce, and quinoa. For brunch I had sourdough bread with apple butter and rockfish potato hash. Zach is amazing. I have several food issues besides a gluten allergy: I need to be dairy-free, avoid inflammatory foods, avoid reflux causing foods, avoid white sugar, and avoid greasy, oily, spicy foods. He gladly and cheerfully responded to every issue. He said he was happy to do so. The second time I ate at the restaurant, I didn’t need to remind him. I have never been treated so nicely at a restaurant. We will be returning to the area soon, and I have reserved every meal at his restaurant.

Zach demonstrates a clear understanding of celiac. Even swapped out some hand-foraged berries in his recipe since he “didn’t know where the berry-picker’s hands had been.” Pretty much the entire menu can be done gluten-free safely, and he has a personal text number on the website for answering dietary questions.

Fabulous Valentines Day dinner here! I believe it was a special Valentines dinner as were we able to order a 4 course meal out several selections paired with wines. We had the scallops as our main dish. The waitress doubled checked all our selections to ensure they were gluten free and even brought us gluten free bread instead of the regular bread they serve. Will definitely go back on our next visit.
Go here! It's amazing! The food was delicious and 90% of the menu is naturally GF! Zach served us himself and was very aware of cross contamination. We will definitely be back!
Update: we went back for brunch just today. I love that this place is so good and nearly dedicated GF, no flour in the kitchen! The coffee cake French toast was amazing and my husband had the long cod hash that was also great! They use baked goods from New Cascadia! Yum! Zach’s Bistro will definitely be a part of every coast trip from now on!

Best French toast ever. Excellent food. Natural all the gone.

This small restaurant in a converted house served probably one of the best meals of my life. YUM. Everything but one entree & a bunch of beers was GF. The lovely waitress even brought us a hot GF roll as the pre-dinner bread! Our meals were fancy & delicious, & the dessert we shared had us wanting to lick the plate—which the waitress said would be fine. 😄 It was not cheap, but for our anniversary celebration, it was perfect, and we will definitely return. So, so good!!

Our server was amazingly welcoming to my dietary needs. As soon as we asked if they have any gluten free options, she was quick to say they can make anything gluten free and dairy free. Zach in the kitchen was so accommodating with my meal, I had the Hage, which was amazing, and when they brought out bread for the rest of my party, she brought out gluten free bread for me separately. They could not have been more helpful and I felt like they really cared about my health and wanted me to be able to have whatever I wanted on the menu. I can't recommend this place highly enough!

Unfortunately, this was not a great experience. We were seated promptly, but it took 30 min for the food to arrive. We both had hamburgers, my gluten free bun was fine, the regular bun was so hard it was inedible. The fries consisted of 7 of them and by the time the got around to get the ketchup there were only 2 left.

Zach does a different menu 3x/day, so I'd mention what we liked but it may be different tomorrow! The menu choices are creative, fresh and delicious. Nearly everything on menu is GF. We had gluten free bread with fresh, Himalayan salted butter to start. My burger came on great GF buns (slider sized), and every dessert on menu was GF. A GF place for foodies - just terrific!

The food was great whether you eat gluten free or not! I called ahead and told them I have Celiac. The service was great, I was informed of all the things I could order. I really loved the crab cake! I left and never got sick! I highly recommend this place!
Our new favorite place to dine. Zach is amazing and so is the food. I've never felt so comfortable eating in a place as a celiac to date (you always wonder). Everything, including the gluten free roll served with our salad was a delight, and the ambiance is so warm and welcoming. This is now our go to spot in Newport. Period.
This place is safe to enjoy if you are a super sensitive Celiac. The chef came out and checked with me about what I had ordered. He was so friendly and the food was AMAZING! They even had GF bread that I couldn't believe was GF it was so good.
**They do have weird hours and are closed on certain days so call ahead.**

Very accommodating and most always the whole menu or at least 90 percent of it is gluten free. If your looking for a quiet, gluten free dinner with your love this is the place.
I FOUND THE FOOD HERE AMAZING! I had a pasta dish and had to have the waitress re-question the chef regarding its being gf because it tasted exactly like regular pasta. even my husband couldnt taste a difference. the chef himself came out and told us they use minninis pasta which is completely gluten free. they use it for ANYONE who orders a pasta dish. not just gf! thats how good it is!! IF YOU HAVE CELIAC AND ARE IN SEARCH OF GOOD FOOD....GO TO ZACHS! YOU WILL BE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!!!
Delicious food. Loved that only three menu items were off limits. I had some of the delicious fish chowder before my husband demolished it. He loved the (non-gf) dropped sourdough bread. My gluten free bread was very tasty. I loved that I could eat crab cakes here. For an entree I went with the duck with orange cherry compote served with black rice and zucchini. Yum! Had the blueberry crisp and the creme brûlée for dessert. There are quite a few wine and a few gf beer options here as well. Every third or fourth Thursday they also offer a Greek menu. Will come back again.

They seem to be very knowledgeable regarding food allergy issues. The waitress was extremely nice and either knew the answer to our questions or happily asked the chef if she didn't. The food was pretty good - though not amazing. However the GF bread was awesome!
95% gluten free menu with fabulous service! The chef also had pre-prepared gluten free substitutes on dishes that weren't originally gluten free. We were visiting from Portland and would definitely recommend this and come back again!
