Symptomatic Celiac

I’m headed to Mexico City for a conference in a few weeks. This will be my first time traveling since being diagnosed celiac. Any travel advice or recommendations for places in Mexico City welcome!

SidCamp You should be fine in most of the hotels. Most traditional Mexican food does not contain flour or gluten. The tortillas are corn and mossy ingredients are fresh. You may want to download a gluten free card in Spanish unless you are conversational. Be careful. Many areas of Mexico are not safe due to the cartels. Check out the US State Department for any travel advisory. 1 reply

normkara110462 Stick to corn based tacos etc and just don’t eat burritos or relonos, beans, rice and corn tacos.

kimmat84 Watch enchilada sauces. Most restaurants use flour to thicken. Very few use corn starch. Best to ask or avoid them all together.

adrianakantun Always ask if they don’t mix the corn dough with flour, usually they don’t but some places do
