Can we have granola or oatmeal? I find lots of conflicting information. If so what brands do you get?
ajathatsme we can have oatmeal! i like to buy gluten free oats and make my oatmeal from scratch that way but if i’m too lazy to pull out my pot and ingredients i eat the quaker’s gluten free oatmeals! they are available at walmart for a good price! 1 reply
ValeriaMcL You need to use certified GF oats, that’s all. Same thing with granola, make sure the oats they use in it are certified gf.
ValeriaMcL And we get Bob’s red mill oats. My daughter is the one with celiac disease and she is not a granola fan, so I can’t help with that ;) 2 replies
brooke25373 purely elizabeth granola !
eatgf https://onedegreeorganics.com/products/organic-sprouted-rolled-oats-us/
AmyLu i love one degree too! Costco sometimes has big bags of their oats for a pretry good deal. also use bob's red mill. i make my own oatmeal and granola all the time, it's easy and you know what's in it.
chad36322 They sell instant gluten free oatmeal at Walmart but have only found brown sugar flavor
caritas Bob’s Red Mill old fashioned rolled oats is the best!
jwebb00 Oats can be tricky. I bought gluten free oats from Trader Joe’s, and they made me sick. I mentioned it to Gluten Free Watchdog, and she had heard the same feedback from others. But I safely enjoy Bob’s Red Mill and Quaker, as long as they are marked gluten free.
Unpopable_Bubble I eat grain free granola, and it’s delicious.
kaitlin88434 Trader Joe’s has a great Grainless granola, it isn’t technically granola though. It tastes just like it, flavor wise, but it is mostly nuts and shreds of coconut, and such. But it’s very good for topping yogurt and all or adding to cereals for a crunch.
Alexis_Umana Everyone perfectly answered this but just thought I would share the reason for the conflicting information is oatmeal can be grown with wheat or in the wheat beds as well as processed in a wheat facility. But getting a certified gf one is safe! Just thought it was interesting
paige37356 Thank you everyone! I appreciate it oatmeal and granola are my favorites I will look into making my own and the Bob’s Red Mill you all suggested.
KarenH Bobs red mill oatmeal gluten free…delicious
rachellef I am to sensitive to regular oatmeal makes all@my gluten symptoms so I only buy gf oats
shari_3 With all the issues lately with oats being contaminated, stick with purity protocol oats if you have celiac. Gluten Free Watchdog is a great resource for this issue if you look it up.
tarry22347 Purely Elizabeth makes some retry hood gf oatmeal. Much better than anything Bob’s Red Mill makes. Anthony’s organic gf oatmeal & steel cut oats are also delish. Also, One Degree Organic gf Oats are amazing. So many good ones to choose from.
jess1379 I have used certified gf oats in the past and had a terrible reaction. I found out the hard way that sometimes celiacs can’t handle oats…
michellesgfreview I buy Bobs Red mill GF oatmeal and the oat bran is my fave
susan46338 I had a reaction to Bobs Red mill GF oats. Maybe I got a bad bag? 🙁 1 reply
heidi129798 I like the Kirkland keto granola. It is delicious with a lot of nuts.
laura157746 Yes as long as it’s labeled GF. It doesn’t have gluten in it but is subject to cross contamination from the equipment. So you just need to get it from someone that uses clean equipment.
lexamae Brands that say GF on the label! Red mill has good oatmeal but there is plenty of others out there, granola too! Once you search you’ll find more than you thought.
lolo198475 Quaker has gf oatmeal and individual on the go cups. Bobs red mill is always dependable
margaret66627 The reason regular oats can have gluten is the crop is often rotated with wheat crop. GF oatmeal has not been grown in same field that wheat was once grown in.
GoldySafirstein The issue is that many brands of oatmeal are cross contaminated with gluten, so definitely get certified gluten free products only. Bob’s Red Mill gluten free products are always a safe bet.
kristin130021 I get bobs red mill old fashioned rolled oats that say gluten free on the bag. Oats are naturally gluten free but highly susceptible to cross contamination from wheat fields so I would only eat ones that say gluten free.
jbeanygril Gluten free prairie. They’re both certified GF AND purity protocol. This means they’re not even grown next to anything that would cross contaminate it. No shared equipment or facilities either. https://www.glutenfreeprairie.com/

Sharetgelight Bob’s Red Mills has the best GF products: oatmeal, muffins, bread mux, chocolate chip cookies. My gluten friends cannot tell the difference. Yummu
KarenH Bobs red mill gf oats
SaraG Been eating Bob’s Red Mill GF Rolled Oats for many years! Never an issue and always delicious.
ajg2011 KIND granola - all flavors are GF and taste great (especially the peanut butter clusters :)
gracie149618 My GI doctor said some celiacs can react to the oat protein the same as gluten, so I think it depends on the person if you will react or not. He recommended I eat oats then have a follow up endoscopy to see if it’s a problem so I just avoid oats. But it sounds like many people eat the certified ones with no problems!
