Barrio Queen management and kitchen staff please please please educate your staff on the different types of allergies. While our waiter was very nice, he fully admitted to not knowing what gluten was. I was very happy he was immediate to ask about allergies and inform the table that the dedicated fryer was down for the chips so they were cross contaminated for people with gluten allergies. The food is the reason this review is getting three stars instead of less. It was tasty and everything was served in corn tortillas. BUT...when asked to clarify the menu because there was no dedicated gluten sensitive menu or tags on the regular menu, the waiter went to the manager instead of the chef. Last time I checked, the chef is the expert of what is in the food, including hidden sources of gluten. Finally, what is happy about happy hour ending at 5pm? Nobody even gets off work before then, but I understand sometimes happy hour is used to draw people in during slower times. Overall, the experience was decent but not something to ride home about, or even leave this diner wanting to return unless some changes were made.

Menu was not marked, but staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They were able to make sure and check with the chef to make sure it was safe. A little pricey but overall good meal!

Our waiter was super kind and tried to assist. There is no gluten-free menu. You have to ask if items are GF, and they say it should be safe. Unfortunately, that didn’t help me feel confident. He couldn’t confirm if the salad dressing was GF. I had a rice dish off the summer menu wo chips. It was very tasty, but I did have symptoms after. I did not eat the chips. The chips are fried in a separate fryer, but for my celiac peeps they buy their chips from a manufacturer that may process wheat (according to my waiter). I cannot recommend to fellow Celiac peeps.

Waitress was knowledgeable and helpful. She can’t have a couple of things in the menu but can have the chips!! We have eaten here a couple of times and she felt fine and we all loved the food. I recommend the short rib burrito or enchiladas and the chili relleno tacos!

I asked my waiter if the chips were gluten free and he told me “well they’re chips so they probably have some flour but I’m sure you’ll be fine it’s just a little bit”. The manager was standing nearby and confirmed that the chips are gluten free and fried in a dedicated fryer. The waiter continued to make jokes throughout the whole meal. I had tacos, which were fine but not great.

Staff was very knowledgable and friendly about celiac/allergen safety. Was told chips are fried in dedicated fryer at this location, and most dishes on the menu are GF or can be modified GF. Manager personally brought out my GF dish which was a nice touch. I did not get sick at all. The Marisco Enchiladas are absolutely divine! 😍

Server was awesome, GF chips and great meal. Server was always there to refill our water and let us take our time ordering while we reconnected with an old friend.

Great food. Staff was friendly, pretty knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. Good amount of options and a dedicated fryer for chips.
The staff is very knowledgeable and the menu is amazing! There are only a handful of things that are not safe on the entire menu and the staff are all well aware of those items. The chips are freshly fried in a dedicated fryer served up with the delicious spicy salsa made on site. Delicious gluten-free corn tortillas are hand pressed daily and the foundation for much of the food; which is just out of this world. The table-side guacamole is delicious & possibly the best I’ve ever had with pom seeds! A huge bonus?? even the ceviche is gluten-free! This is a very celiac friendly place!!

Great unique Southwestern Mexican food. Ask servers to verify which entrees are gluten-free. For example, the carne asada is soaked in beer so server confirmed any of the dishes with it are NOT gluten-free.

The waitress wasn’t sure about what items were gluten free, but she was able to bring out an allergen chart so I could double check that what I wanted to order was gluten free.

Really good food. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. She told us that it's easier to tell us what isn't GF since mist things on the menu are. They make a really good guacamole at your table. And yummy enchiladas, I don't always get to eat enchiladas and these were so good. No reactions either.

Shoutout to Barrio Queen, the manager ROCKS!!!
I’m on the autoimmune protocol diet (the diet for anyone with an autoimmune disease 😉) and after talking with him I was able to get a customized meal!
Do you know how hard it is to get a nightshade free meal at a Mexican food place 🤣? So easy here!
So what did I get? 😋
Deconstructed Shrimp Tacos 🌮
- 4 Shrimp (non marinated and with only salt and pepper)
- Lime
- Red Onion 🧅
- Cucumber 🥒
- Avocado 🥑
- Lettuce 🥬
- Cilantro 🌿
What’s their protocol for gluten free?
✅ Fresh Gloves 🧤
✅ New pan
✅ New utensils 🍴
✅ Gluten Allergy marked on receipt 🧾
✅ Physically walked back to let them know
He was absolutely helpful and took the time to know what I COULD have, rather than rush me into ordering something I’d be nervous about.
