We used to eat here often, before our kid was diagnosed with celiac disease, because the food is delicious and they have a lot of vegan dishes (the Vegan Signature Plate is AMAZING!) When we go with her now , we get gf injera, plus they told us that every vegan item they have is gf; I asked about the baskets they use to bring the injera pieces to the table, and I was assured that they get put in a dishwasher after every customer/meal. I feel pretty confident that they are doing their best to avoid cross contamination, one of the few places in Tucson where we can eat vegan and celiac-safe food now!

I got sick. Based on reading prior reviews here, I thought that I would not have to order special GF injera. After I got sick, my dining partner went to Cafe Desta's website, and it states that the injera is "made from teff, sorghum and wheat flour."

First time last night. Best meal I've had in as long as I can remember. They know what they're doing with GF! If you haven't, go right now. If you have, go again.

The food at Cafe Desta is AMAZING. Most of the menu is gf and they have gluten free injera all the time. We came in with a group of 6 and while it was a bit of a tight fit they were able to accommodate us no problem. We got “the works” combination and a couple sides and we split a bill that barely even topped $100.00 and we’re all really full. Make sure if you’re eating with folks who eat gluten to order your meal separately or convince everyone to try going gluten free for the night to avoid cross contamination. Our group was willing to accommodate me and all enjoyed their meal. I’ll be back again and again.

Delicious authentic Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine with many GF options. The menu is not labeled, but the staff was able to explain to me what menu options I could eat. They also offer GF injera upon request that is made from the traditional teff flour. Delicious food and felt celiac-safe to me. Excited to go back soon!
