I love the "i am bueno"... Tacos... And get grilled onions added on. I love it, and feel very energized by this meal.

New review: they have bread on the menu so I've been very leery about coming here as frequently as we used to. I'm careful to stress that we are glutenfree and I haven't been glutened. You can get the bread items gf by using a dehydrated "live bread" but it's not a sandwich, just a pile of food.

Desserts are still great though.

Old review: I nearly cried when I tasted my first bite from Cafe Gratitude. Glutenfree, vegan, AND amazing? It was so delicious, I went back the next day and ate there again. The ratatouille was magical. The chocolate coconut pie with a side of caramel sauce makes the world a better place. I loved enjoying a delicious ethical meal that made me feel physically amazing after. No gluten! I can't wait to go back!

update may 2013: everything including gluten containing baked goods are now made on site. this kitchen is now f'ed, and I feel like I just lost an 8 year friendship. this was my only safe spot in the east bay for years. I'm so sad.

March 2013: once upon a time, cafe gratitude in Berkeley segregated the one gluten item in the kitchen to a dedicated cutting board. this was the one place in the east bay besides pf changs where I felt safe. now that the cafes operate more independently, contaminated tortillas and lax kitchen practices are making people sick. and, the staff is nothing like it used to be. I trust Matt's location in Santa Cruz, and I'm not coming back to the Berkeley location.

Every time I come to LA, I make a point to come here. I’m DF and GF and can eat most everything on the menu...including dessert! It is a vegan restaurant, so my meat loving husband doesn’t love it, but everything is prepared so well you won’t miss the meat. The Newport location now has a to-go shop around back and they open at 8am with breakfast items. If you want your pick of the baked goods and desserts, go early because they sell out fast. Highly recommend the tiramisu if you can get it before they sell out. Yum!!

I've only been here once and had the vegan and gluten free fried chicken and waffles. Say what?! Yah, that's right...vegan GF fried chicken and waffles!!! It was delicious! The chicken was really mushrooms battered with GF flour and fried in a dedicated fryer...so good! Other items looked really good and I will be back for sure. Our waitress was attentive and very knowledgeable. It's always a plus when you feel at ease when taking that first bite. Then being pleasantly surprised with how good it is makes for a perfect experience.

Their menu is predominately gluten free - only three items on the menu contained gluten that night. They took the fact that I’m a celiac very seriously and made me feel very comfortable. Added bonus - all of the desserts were gluten free too!

Great food, the majority is gluten free. Rather than listing what is gluten free they list what isn’t. Service was also fantastic
