Carpe Diem! Gelato-Espresso Bar

The desserts are so delicious you would never know that they are all gluten free! The oatmeal cream pie cookies are buttery perfection and the Snickers gelato is oh so smooth and creamy with pieces of Snickers in every bite. The Nieman Marcus cookies and burnt honey cake are must haves as well! If you have a sweet tooth(especially if you’re GF) you have to try this quaint local downtown establishment.

Delicious gf pastries. I asked the cashier and she said that the pastry chef can’t eat gluten, I’m not sure if this means she is celiac or intolerant and the cashier wasn’t able to tell me anything about cross-contamination.

Updating my review: ALWAYS ask if something is gluten free even if it is labelled as GF. The staff writes the food labels with chalk each day and are sometimes mislabelled as GF when it is actually not GF.

I’ve had two recent visits where gelato was mislabeled as gluten free on the sign in the gelato case. I asked the staff to confirm because that it was GF because it had a crumbly topping on it. Both times the staff told me it was not gluten free. The first time it happened, the staff removed the GF label immediately. She said some of the other staff were new and she put a note on the counter reminding them that the biscoff flavor was not GF. However, the second time the staff advised the topping was regular vanilla wafers and was NOT gluten free. She did not remove the GF labelling from the gelato sign for that flavor. I don’t think it’s okay to be so careless with GF labeling when gluten toppings are purposefully added, and I don’t feel as though I can trust them.

I did leave a Google review to warn anyone who is looking for GF options, just let them know they should ask first. The owner replied to my review with her apologies and confirmed that it’s been difficult to get the staff to learn to take GF labelling seriously but that she is trying to get them to improve.

This was a gem to find on a long road trip after hundreds of miles of limited gluten free options! Almost everything was GF. The pastries were delicious and the savory crepe was an unexpected treat. Highly recommended
