Was excited to try this place based on rating and reviews but I got so sick! I got the same things as the others who reviewed the place on this app. So felt safe. But man.... I feel like they rolled my food around in all the buns. Was sick within 2 hours of eating there and am still awful now (next day). (And frankly... the BBQ wasn't that great. Marlowe's is WAY better and safe!!)

So so good! I had the full rack of ribs and used the bbq sauce with the beans and slaw. All GF!

The food was good; not my favorite style of BBQ, but it did the job. They pre-sauce the meat prior to delivery to your table; as Texans, we aren’t accustomed to it, so that was a big surprise!
The service was great, and our server was especially attentive to our son, who has big sensory reactions to food. We needed a few order adjustments throughout the meal, and our server was very happy and friendly to make it happen; it made a stressful meal much more manageable for our boy and for us.
No illness afterwards, no reactions, just full bellies and happy kids ready to get some sleep after a long day of travel. Would recommend for food safety and service, but less so for the style of BBQ. Oh, and I’ll add that it’s a really cute spot in an alleyway; kitschy and fun!
*All menu items are gf, except for the sandwiches/rolls

Can’t comment on anything besides the nachos which I’ve gotten multiple times & their beans - but they are DELICIOUS. I love the rub/seasoning that comes with them, and I haven’t had a reaction after eating here!

I had the ribs and some nachos and WOW. Amazing! I was waiting to review this to make sure I didn’t get sick and I did not!! Highly recommend this place.

BBQ was great. Ordered with no bread and the server confirmed no bread, but there was a roll in the container. They replaced it quickly and no issues. Brisket was 👌😚

Found this place bc of the app. Sat down and asked the waiter if they had gluten free options and they replied, “everything is gluten free except for the bread.” We got complimentary nachos bc the kitchen had made an extra batch and they were awesome. Good amount of cheese, meat, and chips. Ordered the ribs and brisket combo w/ a side of pickles. Came with 5 ribs, a good portion of brisket (usually comes on a ciabatta bun but I obviously got it without), slaw, and beans. Ribs weren’t as fall-off-the-bone as I was expecting but they were pretty good. Slathered them in sauce and they were even better. Had plenty of food to take home as leftovers. Did not get sick. Would definitely come back again

Tried this place after other reviews on here. Waiter was knowledgeable and even double checked about their nacho chips to make sure they were gluten free. I had the pork nachos and they were delicious!

A fabulous food experience! The waiter was knowledgeable and said their menu is all gluten free except for the bread. My husband and I both had pork ribs & chicken breast combo which had sides of coleslaw and beans. My husband also had potato salad. I loved all of it, even with the large portion, I ate it all. The ribs had a rub on top and juicy and tender underneath and the chicken was juicy and delicious. The BBQ sauce was delicious and we tried the mild and hot and liked them both. We were visiting and I thought we should be able to enjoy a good meal here and was so happy we tried Charlie Vargas Rendezvous.

As a Memphian, I eat here regularly. You just have to be very clear about no bread, because of Gluten "allergies". They will typically bring you their tortilla chip they use for BBQ nachos if you order the sausage/cheese plate app. Also, pro tip if you can't do dairy but love nachos, ask for no cheese with a side of slaw. It does the trick.

Good ribs, Limited menu options but had the pork ribs. Best dry rub ribs I've had. The beans that came with them were very good but was a tiny servings. The other side was a mustard coleslaw, made me wish I asked something else. We eat outdide due to covid which was fine.
Fun place. They said the only thing with gluten was the bread. So sick after eating here. Maybe it is other sensitivities. Maybe it is gluten. If I were to do it again I wouldn’t do it.
Safe as a celiac, really great!
Yes
Very knowledgeable staff, I told them I was celiac and they were very good!
Yes
Husband has celiac. No reactions. He had the brisket, ribs, and sausage and cheese platter. Sauces and rubs are gf.
Highly recommend the brisket! So good!!!!
Yes
Had ribs with beans and coleslaw, all gf. Waiter was great! Asked for no bread and no problem. According to locals this is a busy place so go early if you don’t want to wait in line.
Yes
Gluten free wise, it was great, they really seem to get it and we're careful to make sure I got no bread (the only thing with gluten in the whole place) and they pointed out that there was bread on my companions meal. The food wasnt my favorite, good, just not great, which is reason for 4 stars vs 5.
Went on a family recommendation. Everything is gluten free except the bread and crackers. Tell them you’re gluten free so they don’t put bread under your meat. Loved the sausage and pork shoulder. Didn’t like the ribs. I just don’t care for a dry rub and they were not tender. Hubby loved the brisket. Nice to be able to relax with food you know is gluten free.
Yes
Great food, everything except the bread gluten free! I had the brisket, coleslaw, and baked beans. Delicious food and I felt fine after! Very cool atmosphere also, would definitely go back!
Great Memphis bbq. Everything is gluten free except the rolls and crackers.
Everything but the bread is gluten free, just make sure you tell them or you'll get bread under your meat. I think the appetizers also come with crackers but I didn't order any. It's so nice to be able to go to a restaurant and just order anything without having to worry about it. The food was good, but not mind blowing. So heavy on the vinegar that it gave me heartburn, but I know that's a style of barbecue, just not my favorite.
Yes
I don't know what it is, can't put a finger on it. Every time I eat here I get glutened. I ask and am assured that what I order is all gluten free. I read the label on the sauces and am careful about ordering. I know it is an iconic landmark. Won't go back. More for the rest of you, I guess.
Great food and everything is gf. Make sure you tell them no bread. Enjoy. D
Food was great, Celiac friendly! However, I ordered ribs and brisket, but underneath the brisket was a piece of bread that I didn't discover until I was 3/4 way through the meal. The menu states "bread upon request."
No
Walked in and thought "there is no way this place is safe for me to eat in!" but I'm glad I was wrong. Literally everything is safe except bread and beer, so just make it clear when you order and they do well! A legit Memphis staple too!
Yes
While the food is gf it clearly states bread available on request. unfortunately they served every plate with bread so they had to be sent back and remade.
Yes
Per wait staff "everything is gluten free except the bread." They have a good understanding of gluten intolerance and, conveniently, don't have it in their food. Quick service and large portions. Not the best BBQ, but good and safe.
tl;dr - everything but the bread is safe, quick service, good BBQ, would visit again
Yes
They were very friendly, everything on the menu is gluten free minus the bread of course. Our waiter was knowledgeable and extremely fast. Wish you could bottle the smells!
Yes
The most amazing and delicious bbq ribs! Our waiter, the famous Robert Sr, took care of my GF needs and I didn't have any reactions. Beans were great and Cole slaw was interestingly spicy!
AMAZING barbecue, most options GF :-) Be sure to let them know about your allergy, as there can be some surprise gluten (my husband's brisket came on a slice of bread, although he's not GF so it wasn't an issue). Ribs and baked beans were great, though!
Just tell them about your allergy. Good is amazing, but get there early to avoid a long wait.
Yes
The ribs were delicious and the sauces were gluten free as well. Would definitely recommend.
Yes
Really great BBQ, just ask for no bread and say that you are gluten free and they will make sure your food doesn't get contaminated. All of their delicious sauces are gluten free as is. Get the beans cause they are amazing (they come with pork in it). I wouldn't say that they have a completely gluten free kitchen but I am very sensitive and didn't have a problem with this restaurant.
