Chipotle

Notes
Gluten Intolerance/Celiac Disease
"Most people wanting to avoid gluten can eat anything we serve except for our large and small flour tortillas.
Everything else is fine to eat for most people wanting to avoid gluten, including our crispy corn tacos and our corn chips.
However, you should know that it's possible our corn may have a small amount of gluten from potentially co-mingling with gluten-containing grains in the field.
If you are highly sensitive and would like us to change our gloves, we would be happy to do that at your request. Additionally, because our folks work with wheat tortillas all day long, there may be the possibility of cross-contact in our restaurants. We encourage you to carefully consider your dining choices."

No gluten free menu. The workers were incredibly confused when I asked what was in each item and what was gluten free. There is no protection against cross contamination and there is no way to know for sure what is in the food. If it would have let me leave no stars that is what I would leave.

This was our first foray into eating out in months. I had heard good things about Chipotle being knowledgeable and celiac friendly so we convinced our six year old to give it a try even though Mexican/burritos weren't her top pick. We went in and told the first employee in the line that our daughter has celiac and can't have gluten so could he tell me what our options were. He had no clue and asked a co-worker what had gluten in it. She said all of it except the tortillas. I explained that I had to have a guarantee or she would get sick and they all seemed nervous and unsure. No mention of changing gloves or utensils. So we thanked them for their time and left. Headed to Red Robin.

Tasty. Easy to make a meal gluten-free, though celiac folks need to know there are flour tortillas on the line. They are very careful. Why not five stars? Salt! I ate there twice in one week - as excited medically-GF folks are likely to do when finding a friendly and yum option - and learned the hard way that Chipotle must be a special occasion, plan-ahead place for me. Darn.

Manager was very helpful in explaining how they could use foil to avoid cross contamination so that my celiac 3 year old could have a quesadilla. She also offered to get fresh items for us instead of scooping from what was out. This was our first chipotle experience and we will return, especially when traveling!

I have always enjoyed Chipotle. I write this review to reiterate what I'm sure many have said. This is the closest thing to fast food a celiac can get. I do not use "fast food" in a negative way. It is fairly difficult to get food that a celiac can trust without either waiting an extended period of time or making it ourselves. The food here is always fresh and delicious and they are friendly and speedy with the service. I also commend them for the care in which they took when I used them to cater my sisters baby shower. She is gluten intolerant and they did an exceptional job keeping the few items that did contain gluten (the flour tortillas) separate from the rest of the order. I was very pleased and happily recommend them to cater any event. It was a great way to please all of the guests not just us celiacs.

Chipotle is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. Not only is the food incredibly delicious, but the employees are very well trained in terms of allergy orders. Although the "Gluten free order!" shout can be a little embarrassing, it's well worth it. The employees are very careful to always switch their gloves and wash their hands when I place my order. They ensure there is no cross contamination by taking out untouched cheese to use for my order. Very, very well done and highly recommended.

I was sick before we finished eating! If you have celiac dont eat there! They touch the flour tortillas and then touch every other food item as they are serving. It doesn't matter if they change their gloves to serve you - cross contamination has been going on since they first started using each food item.

I am glutened about 75% of the time at this chipotle and have since stopped eating here after giving it a good try. The staff is typically rude about changing their gloves, there is close to no cross contamination training, and most of the staff is unaware of their company policy on gluten free bowls. I tend to go to chipotle's right at opening or off hours to make it easier on the staff, it seems to make no difference at this location. If you are celiac i do not recommend this location.

This location is extremely convenient for me as I'm frequently in the area. I have a daughter who is celiac and we suspect her father is as well. Both of them love chipotle's food. Finally things are getting easier in terms of watching out for cross-contamination. When you say "gluten-free"and ask them to change their gloves it seems they have been informed to wash their hands, change their gloves, and have ONE person do the food serving down the line. It used to be such a hassle and chaos ensued trying to get everyone in the line to change their gloves at the same time so as to not contaminate their food. I emailed the company about this I don't even know how many times. Success!

My husband and I were here on our honeymoon and had never been to a Chipotle. The server knew exactly what to tell us to order for Gluten Free and took us thru step by step.. removing the spoons used for each bin of food my husband wanted. She then replaced them all with new clean spoons and changed her gloves. They take cross contamination very seriously and were very knowledgeable regarding what to order. Would absolutely recommend this location!

My daughter has celiac disease and cannot tolerate gluten. We eat here all the time and never a problem, as long as I'm careful and be sure to clarify to the server to use corn tortillas (and watch them - one other Chipotle still used a flour tortilla after I specifically said corn for gluten-free). She gets the kids cheese quesadilla kids meal with white rice and black beans. Loves the chips and mild salsa. She's also had a burrito bowl with chicken and carnitas. No problems.

New brunswick is Def one of the worst locations of the chain. Have received soft flour tacos when gluten allergy reported & hard corn requested. Only twice...and the same week (late 2014) Do yourself a favor & head to north or east brunswick. Or even menlo pk mall. T For quick pick-up-Load the app & order before you go. Best chain is chipolte around here to eat gf without concern. Going GMO free too- just wish this location lived up to the others.

Sometimes there are newer staff who seem puzzled when you mention Gluten Free. Even so, there is always at least one person who understands the process and will walk the line people through the clean gloves and spoons. They always forget to use foil around soft corn tortillas, so keep an eye on that!

Cheese and other items are pulled from "new" trays, to reduce cross contamination risks. Respectfully requesting the help has always worked out great! Thank you to the staff! My last visit was four days ago when I brought my 15yo nephew out for lunch. I have enjoyed Chipotle and it has become one of our go to spots. The line wasn't bad this time. When I asked the person who was taking orders to change her gloves for mine, I got the biggest eye roll ever. My nephew saw it, shook his head at me and asked me why she had to be rude. I'm just glad that I was the person that was directed at and not my nephew. It's hard enough to eat out with Celiac. Our lunch was delicious, just wish it wasn't served with the side of eye roll!!
